Contract/Hours: Permanent, Term time only – Jobshare available for right applicants

Salary Type: Support Staff

Salary Details: Grade 7 – min £26873(£13.93 p.hr) – max £28770 (£14.91 p.hr) pro-rata, term time only

Hours of Work: 7.15am – 8.45am – Breakfast Club and 3.15pm-5.30pm (4.30pm on Fridays) – Afterschool Club Supervisor (an extra hour to be built in to allow for planning – to be taken when suits). Flexibility to apply for either or both roles.

Drayton Community Primary School is a growing school based near Abingdon in South Oxfordshire. Due to growing demand and school size we are pleased to offer wrap around care for children in our Reception-Year 6 classes.

We have a vacancy for a Breakfast Club and Afterschool Club Supervisor, working with our school team to provide safe, high quality education and care for young children, meeting their individual needs. We would welcome applicants who would like to jobshare.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • The ability to successfully lead a team of playworkers, modelling a calm and professional manner
  • The skillset to model and ensure the team uphold the school code of conduct, confidentiality and school polices
  • The knowledge and understanding of why risk assessments and policies must be followed and the ability to act in a professional manner to address situations where they are not
  • Experience and practical knowledge of how to build and maintain professional working relationships with parents and families
  • Experience of working with young children, supervising a group of children, ideally of different ages and a working knowledge of safeguarding/child protection procedures.
  • Effective communication skills with children and adults alike.
  • An understanding of the importance to play based approaches to children's learning and development.
  • An enthusiasm and keen interest in engaging with the children in meaningful interactions, building effective relationships that enable you to support the child’s next steps in a supportive, caring environment
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is an advantage.
  • Holder of a first aid qualification an advantage.

Training in food hygiene and first aid will be provided if needed.

Job description

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To be responsible for the planning, day-to-day organisation and operation of the Breakfast Club, providing a balanced breakfast, high quality play opportunities and care for children in an inclusive environment, and in accordance with the school’s ethos, expectations and policies.

MAIN DUTIES

Planning and admin

  • To plan and provide care and creative play opportunities in consultation with children and relevant policies and risk assessments.
  • To ensure that children’s individual needs are recognised, and to engage them in establishing and maintaining boundaries for their behaviour following the school rules and upholding the school values.
  • To carry out day to day administration, record keeping and liaise with the office to order and maintain a stock of breakfast food and drinks.

Working with each other

  • To supervise playworkers, ensuring they are effectively deployed and offer appropriate care and support to all children.
  • To lead and model professional behaviours and to expect and uphold the team of playworkers to the same standards

Health and safety

  • To ensure that the club is a safe environment for all, that equipment is well-maintained, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented and risk assessments, fire drills/evacuation procedures are carried out in line with school expectations.
  • To organise the handover/collection of children to/from other areas of the school, ensuring that relevant information is shared in a professional manner.
  • To ensure that food and drink provided promotes and encourages healthy eating and a balanced diet and complies with current school food guidelines and food safety legislation. Where appropriate children should be developing life skills and independence, for example pouring milk.
  • To work as part of the whole school team and be proactive in approaching school staff and ASC supervisor to further support children and provision.
  • To ensure correct procedures are followed for the administration of first aid and medication.
  • To participate in any relevant training and development activities deemed appropriate by the school’s leadership team.
  • To establish and maintain constructive relationships and communicate with parents/carers, children and school staff members.
  • To work within agreed policies and procedures, supporting the review of any relevant policies.
  • To undertake other duties, appropriate to the grade, as may reasonably be required by the school’s leadership team.

Education and qualifications

  • Level 3 qualification in Playwork

Experience and knowledge

  • Experience of working with children, and planning high quality play opportunities that meet their developmental needs
  • Experience of managing challenging behaviour
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Training related to the inclusion of children with special educational needs in a play setting
  • Knowledge of ‘safer recruitment’ procedures

Ability and skills

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to inform, inspire and motivate children and staff, and provide oral/written feedback to school, professionals and parents/carers
  • Ability to put knowledge of legal requirements and Playwork Principles into practice
  • Ability to use own initiative, problem-solve and make efficient use of resources.
  • Relevant management and organisation skills, including staff management.
  • Evidence of reporting and dealing with safeguarding appropriately
