Role Overview:
The Business Development Manager for the Business, Professional & Financial Services (BPFS) sector will play a pivotal role in stimulating and securing inward investment and business expansion across the West Midlands region. The primary focus will be on attracting job-creating investment within the BPFS sector and driving public sector relocations, aligning with government initiatives for regional growth.
Responsibilities and Key Activities:
BPFS Investment Promotion
- Identify and articulate the strengths and opportunities within the West Midlands BPFS sector to attract investment from global and domestic markets.
- Develop a comprehensive knowledge base and network within the BPFS sector in the West Midlands.
- Contribute to crafting and executing a BPFS sector plan encompassing Business Development strategies and event activations to attract investments.
- Manage a pipeline of investment projects, ensuring successful commitments and substantial job creation in the region.
- Engage strategically with incumbent West Midlands businesses to understand their objectives and facilitate business growth and expansion.
- Cultivate robust relationships with private and public sector stakeholders regionally and nationally to showcase investment opportunities in the West Midlands.
- Collaborate with partners to create compelling advocacy for potential investors and establish connections between investors and commercial partners for mutual benefit.
- Develop and execute engagement programs with stakeholders to facilitate civil service relocations to the West Midlands.
- Collaborate with local authorities to create compelling propositions for civil service relocations across the region.
- Guide and support consultants in identifying relocation opportunities and target agencies/departments for engagement.
- Directly engage with government agencies and departments to expedite and expand their relocation plans within the West Midlands.
- Maintain records of activities and outcomes for transparency and reporting purposes.

- Proficiency in team collaboration, leadership, and motivation.
- Strong negotiation and influencing abilities at senior levels.
- Self-motivated with a track record of success in Business Development and marketing activities.
- Understanding of the BPFS sector, including current trends.
- Experience in a multi-stakeholder environment and commercial awareness.
- Proven track record in executing successful Business Development strategies.
- Familiarity with place marketing or investment promotion is desirable.
- Previous engagement/influence with UK Civil Service decision-makers is advantageous.
