The Business Development Manager – Corporate role is responsible for the development of the local, national and international corporate market, researching and effectively handling in-bound conference and banqueting enquiries, bringing these to conclusion, as well as pro-actively initiating new business leads through networking, attending industry events and cold calling.
Main Responsibilities:
- To proactively secure new national and international conference business and banqueting events as well as proactive account management of existing clients.
- Proactively deliver new business opportunities by identifying prospects in the national and international conference and banqueting market.
- Responsible for devising and implementing a Sales Plan to meet agreed targets in these areas.
- Assisting with the setting of strategy and annual budgets for the conference and banqueting business.
- Monitoring and analysing sales targets across the national and international conference and banqueting markets and implementing remedial actions.
- Identifying and targeting potential customers by phone calls, with a focus on securing meetings to discuss event requirements in more detail.
- Working proactively to retain and further develop relationships with a number of key accounts.
- Actively promoting the venue, conducting presentations, attending trade shows, client entertaining including familiarisation trips, networking and site visits with agents and corporates.
- Ensuring that all sales are accurately contracted and invoiced, liaising with Finance to ensure receipt of payments.
- Attending face to face meetings with clients across the UK, travelling at least once per month.
- Awareness of trends and propose ideas to build the range and quality of conference and banqueting events.
- Maintaining relationships with clients by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities; recommending profit and service improvements.
- Preparing reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information.
- Monitoring the progress of sales enquiries and chase contracts to conclusion, ensuring that sales procedures are adhered to.
- Working collaboratively with PR & Marketing on all market sector campaigns and promotions
Knowledge & Qualifications:
- Tourism/Event Management Qualification or equivalent
- Tourism and/or event industry knowledge
Skills:
- Sales and negotiation skills
- Initiative and enthusiasm
- Excellent communication and 'people skills'
- Good planning and organisational skills
- The ability to work calmly under pressure
- Good IT, presentation and proposal writing skills
Experience
- Detailed understanding of the conference and events sector
- Experience in sales, proposal writing and delivering high level presentations
- A proven track record of achieving sales targets and developing business
