WW Food Safety is seeking a Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) who is passionate about data, analytics, science, and automation.
To be successful in this role, you must have a high capacity to Learn and Be Curious adapting to the latest changes in the business, systems, tools, and techniques for extracting, processing, analyzing, modeling, and taking action on data. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, highly analytical, consistently think in terms of automation, and intensely detailed with a strong customer focus to drive strategy in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision. The ideal candidate shows good judgment in making technical trade-offs between short term and long term business needs and demonstrate the ability to drive issues to completion.
They will have a passion for both people and working with complex problems to create the best user experience for all stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities
As a BIE on our team you will focus on exciting and challenging problems, including:
- Apply your deep analytic and Business Intelligence skill to extract meaningful insight from large and complicated data sets
- Engage regional business stakeholders in constructive dialogues to convert business problems into logic problems that can be solved with data, statistics, and/or scripting
- Design, develop, and implement scalable, automated infrastructure for data extraction, processing, computation, and delivery
- Support fellow engineers and scientists to deliver analytical projects and build proof of concept applications
- Work closely with data engineering, product management, and business stakeholders to deliver features to customers
- Learn new technology and techniques such that you can meaningfully support product and process innovation
- Help drive new initiatives and data integration projects
- Extracting and combining data from various heterogeneous data sources
- Modelling data and metadata to support ad-hoc and pre-built reporting
- Manage and design a Business Intelligence reporting platform integrated to internal and external Amazon systems
A day in the life
As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will work with stakeholders across operations Food Safety managers, private brands Food Safety and global programs to understand their pain points in executing Food Safety programs that they own. You will draft the capabilities required to solve their pain points, align them to the objectives and develop a timeline to deliver solutions.
You will test, run monitor and improve the solutions provided based on user input. Last but not least, you will continually seek new problems to solve to address business challenges faced by your stakeholder teams.

The Worldwide Food Safety team provides Food Safety subject matter expertise for Amazon's food businesses. Our mission is to build and maintain the trust of our customers by assuring the safety and quality of Amazon's ingestible products. We deliver on this mission with science-based, technology-enabled and data-driven programs that we continuously improve for the benefit of our customers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools
- Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines
- Experience writing complex SQL queries
- Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab
- Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling
- Proven experience analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
- Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets
