This is what you will do:
The Business Planning & Operation Manager is an important role in UK Rare Disease Unit (RDU) supporting the General Manager to effectively manage enterprise priority deliverables through effective facilitation, alignment and governance of leadership forums, rare disease leadership initiatives and various functional activities. This role also tracks and monitors achievement against UK Scorecard, proactively addressing ‘off track’ deliverables with enterprise leaders and ensures action plans are implemented where needed.
This role often includes components of strategy (understanding and translation of the country vision and priorities), facilitation (enabling leaders to work collaboratively and get to decision faster), project management (coordinating UK/IE priority projects), and bridge building (aligning across the various forums, functions, franchises and with the wider UK and global AZ organization). This role supports our culture drivers as well as supports the building of organisational capabilities by being a role model.
The Business Planning & Operation Manager partners closely the General Manager and business leaders on a daily basis to ensure operational effectiveness and delivery of high impact projects.
You will be responsible for:
Embed Leadership Governance
- Facilitate leadership forums to ensure effective decision making in line with company strategic priorities and governance structure to achieve business outcomes. Ensure follow-up on action items in a timely manner
- Actively contribute to leadership forums by bringing external insights and research into decision making
- Monitor achievement against UK Scorecard ‘must win’ deliverables assigned to each leadership forum, proactively identify and develop action plans to address off-track deliverables with the relevant enterprise leaders.
- Collaborate with relevant AZ UK and global functions including the business units, business operations and corporate functions peers to share information, identify synergies, leverage best practices and to anticipate future topics/needs of the UK RDU
- Ensure alignment of key messages by supporting RDU Corporate Affairs & Internal Communications with presentation content for Town Hall meetings
Deploy programs to improve Organisational Effectiveness
- In conjunction with RDU Corporate Affairs & Internal Communications, advocate and educate on various internal communications channels for information sharing
- In collaboration with RDU UK IBEX agenda, foster data driven decision making, coaching individuals and teams to become empowered with data.
- Own and communicate RDU UK business operations calendar, ensuring alignment with the evolving priorities of the organisation (i.e.. Financial planning meetings, All company events, Senior leader visits, priority internal and external engagements) to enable individuals to co-ordinate and collaborate.
- Build continuous improvement capabilities across the workforce
- Act as a point of entry for company-wide projects by identifying right contact or acting as a single point of contact for UK RDU
- Provide coaching on business acumen and networking opportunities across UK AZ organisation to develop individuals and progress UK RDU initiatives
Team Leadership
- Manage team of Business Operations and Project Management Specialists; including recruitment, development, performance management and change management
- Identify operational painpoints and process improvements in systems and ways of working. Deploy direct reports to support on addressing these painpoints.
You will need to have:
- Degree in Life Science or Business
- Project Management or Process Improvement accreditation (i.e Lean Six Sigma, Agile Methodology, Kaizen)
- Experience working in an international and multi-cultural environment
- Excellent digital literacy including productivity efficiency tools via MS Office
- Ability to establish, co-ordinate and evaluate leadership operational model including governance structures that facilitate empowerment and effective decision making.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking skills, analytical and creative thinking capabilities.
- Proven ability to encourage evidence-led disruption, using research, industry trends and data.
- Demonstrated ability to work with team leaders and influence without authority to ensure priority deliverables are achieved (outcome driven).
- Experience facilitating meetings to ensure inclusion and diversity objectives are achieved.
- Previous team leadership
- Strong project management skills, with demonstrable experience of managing multiple and diverse projects. Able to handle rapidly changing priorities and cope under pressure. Ability to work to tight deadlines and under own initiative
- The ability to switch between driving a strategic agenda whilst operating with technical detail needed to make change practical and meaningful.
- Proven track record coordinating, influencing and collaborating with cross-functional teams, cultivate effective relationships and ability to adjust style
- Good communicator with ability to communicate at all levels-verbal and written.
- Ability to manage confidential information and understand relevance and sensitivity. Strong sense of ethic, integrity and responsibility
- Professional presence and diplomacy
We would prefer for you to have:
- Experience in managing budgets
- Understanding of ABPI code
- Understanding of the workings of a Pharmaceutical Industry desirable
