Your team: The TLS (Times Literary Supplement) is the world’s leading journal for literature and ideas. Your role: Times Media is looking for a Business lead responsible for setting business strategy and financial plans to drive scalable growth of the Times Literary Supplement. Reporting to the Business Growth Director, this core role will be managing the P&L, creating plans and aligning resources to improve the profitability of the business. 

Day to day you will:Work with teams across the organisation including Product, Editorial, Operations, Sales, Licensing and Marketing, you’re a team player who brings people together, inspiring and motivating to drive results. Data-led, customer-centric and results-driven, you’ll be a self-starter with a proven track record of driving business profitability. You will proactively manage the growth of the TLS portfolio for print, digital, international, group and student subscriptions. With subscribers in 72 countries around the world, the TLS enjoys an established UK market as well as a large US subscriber base, the growth of which will be a key focus for this role, alongside the nurture of print customers to digital.

  • Set and support business strategy and financial plans to deliver on OKRs

  • Create plans and align resources to improve profitability and deliver strong results.

  • Oversee and drive product integration with the wider business following a recent tech re-platforming.

  • Liaise with operations for cost control to ensure profitability.

  • Identify new audiences for TLS, developing the TLS propositions portfolio, defining the channels to market and, owning the product roadmap. 

  • Engagement with our US/Canada operations, liaising with US print and fulfilment to ensure alignment with our UK team.

  • Work with the retail team to ensure availability and cost control. Work with licencing to expand and deepen the partnerships network and optimise advertising revenue. 

  • Partner with the TLS editorial team to understand their business objectives and update on plans for the product.

What we’re looking for from you: 

  • A strong understanding of managing cross-functional teams to deliver outstanding results.

  • Commercially minded with experience in managing a P&L

  • Confident and experienced in influencing key management stakeholders.

  • Confident with financial modelling and business casing

  • Strong ability to work autonomously and define what needs to be done

  • An understanding of the product development cycle and agile methodology 

  • Experience developing propositions and offers that support subscriber LTV

  • Strong understanding of the customer lifecycle within a subscription business
