Job description

The Children and Social Work Act 2017 requires local authorities to consult on and publish a Local Offer for its Care Leavers. The Local Offer should provide information about all the services and support that is available to Care Leavers from the local authority including information about both their statutory entitlements as well as any discretionary support that a local authority chooses to provide. This will ensure Care Leavers receive consistent and comprehensive support as they transition into adulthood.
This role will embed an aspirational culture to further develop Peterborough’s Local Offer to our Care Leavers. The role will drive forward the organisation’s desire to realise potential pledges of support from both within the authority and from partners throughout the city, to maximise the opportunities for our Care Leavers. This will include the continuing development of our existing Local Offer; working in consultation with staff and our Care Leavers to ensure we, as an organisation are fulfilling our Corporate Parenting responsibilities to the best of our ability.
This role will be co-located within the Corporate Parenting Service and the Virtual School; collaborative working will be encouraged to ensure a joined up approach across education.
What will you be doing?
The postholder will:
• Act as a champion for Care Leavers across Peterborough, developing and embedding an aspirational ethos both within the Local Authority, with our partners and throughout the city.
• Identify innovative and exciting opportunities within and beyond PCC, including with communities, voluntary and private sector. Work with partners to find new opportunities for Care Leavers.
About you
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, and creative individual. You will demonstrate a sound understanding of issues relating to young people and the ability to engage with this group and respond appropriately.
It will be essential to have an analytical and problem solving mindset, the ability to research, stay abreast of national best practice and respond to a rapidly changing national landscape.
We are seeking an effective communicator who can lead and motivate others, supporting the wider directorate to be ambitious and aspirational for our Care Leavers and working with a variety of key stakeholders. It will be essential to be able to plan keeping high-priority tasks in the face of conflicting pressures and priorities.
We can support further development including apprenticeship opportunities.
This role is hybrid working – office and home working are supported in line with the needs of the service.
Now is a great time to join us and be part of this service. In return for working with us, you will have access to an amazing range of benefits including:
• Generous annual leave entitlement starting at 25 days per year + bank holidays (FTE) + option to purchase up to an additional ten days per year (FTE)
• Comprehensive pension scheme with employer contributions of 17.5% (current)
• Immediate life cover (x3 times your annual salary) and ill-health protection (applicable to those enrolled in LGPS)
• Flexible and hybrid working opportunities
• Discounted private medical insurance
• Access to a car lease salary sacrifice and cycle to work scheme
• Funded professional or subscription fees where qualification or membership of a professional body is an essential part of the role
Interviews are expected to take place in the week beginning 10th June 2024 with the successful candidate starting as soon as possible after this date.
For further information and an informal conversation please contact Michaela Berry (Head of service for Corporate Parenting) Michaela.berry@peterborough.gov.uk or Nichola Phillips (Virtual School Deputy Head Teacher) nichola.phillips@peterborough.gov.uk
We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.
Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
