If you are, then an exciting opportunity to work in the high-profile Energy Consents Unit (ECU) has arisen which involves assessing proposals for Scotland’s energy infrastructure and their impacts of climate change, and effects on the environment and communities.
The Energy Consents Unit (ECU) is a branch of the Energy and Climate Change Directorate, responsible for processing applications for energy infrastructure to be determined by the Scottish Ministers within relevant legislative and policy frameworks.
Joining ECU will give you the opportunity to work in a high profile area, and contribute to vital decisions for Scotland’s energy infrastructure and electricity network.
- Responsibility for managing to completion a portfolio of Electricity Act Applications including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects, in line with relevant planning and environmental legislation including drafting decision letters for ministerial approval;
- Using your working knowledge of the planning system and practical skills provide mentoring and coaching support to staff under your line management and where required the wider unit;
- To draft and support quality assurance you will review all aspects of Electricity Application associated casework (such as EIA screenings and scopings, Compulsory Purchase Orders and Necessary wayleave applications) and;
- Undertake all other duties as required by your line manager (such as Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial and official correspondence/Freedom of Information requests and briefing).

No specific qualifications are required for this post.
Essential Criteria:
1. Practical experience of managing planning applications and/or a working knowledge of town and country planning and environmental legislation.
2. Experience of analysing and evaluating complex and (potentially sensitive) information to support in taking evidence based decisions.
3. Strong communication skills including excellent written communication skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
4. Ability to lead and manage people providing coaching and support to individuals within the team.
Location: 5 Atlantic Quay, Glasgow, G2 8LU
This post is based in Glasgow. There will be some opportunity for job location flexibility either working from home or in any Scottish Government building. You will required to occasionally to undertake site visits throughout Scotland, travel to other Scottish Government offices and attend stakeholder meetings in other locations.

Minimum time in post:
You will be expected to remain in post for a minimum of three years unless successful at gaining promotion to a higher Band or Grade.
