The Education Entitlement Service (EES) strives to deliver outstanding services for our customers, predominately the children of Coventry, who may be requiring access to education or alternative education provision. What is the job role?Coventry Interpretation and Translation Unit (CITU) supports professionals by providing a confidential and impartial high quality interpretation and translation service to people whose first language is not English or who have a sensory impairment.

CITU provides interpretation and translation services in several languages. All interpreters follow the Coventry City Council’s policies and procedures and are committed to their own Code of Practice, which includes maintaining the confidentiality of service users at all times. CITU Interpreters have the necessary skills and experience to interpret in a variety of settings such as Case Conferences, LAC reviews, Child in Need meetings, Investigations, Home Visits, Meetings, and Training sessions.

CITU also provides written translation of a variety of documents including Case Conference recommendation letters, Reports, Appointment Letters, Care Plans, Assessments, etc. into various community languages and vice-versa.

CITU also facilitates telephone and sign language interpreting which is available through external agencies.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
 
Who are we looking for?If you are fluent in  Krio, Somali, and Tigrinya languages, both written and verbal, have a good command of English, and are available for face-to-face appointments during office hours to work on a casual basis then you are invited to apply to join the Sessional Register of Interpreters/Translators. Please do not apply if you don't speak any of the languages listed above!

You will be paid £12.81 per hour plus travel time(total £25.62). Qualified Interpreters will be paid at a higher rate of £13.70 (total including travel time: £27.40).

Candidates should possess a minimum degree level or equivalent qualification, the DPSI (Diploma in Public Service Interpreting) is desirable, or an equivalent qualification will be given preference.
