Catering Assistant

Are you an experienced Catering Assistant looking for an exciting new challenge in Bath? Buro Happold is looking for a Catering Assistant with previous kitchen work experience and a food hygiene certificate to join us as part of our Bath Facilities team.

This role is a 6 month Fixed Term Contract.

Catering assistants are vital team members who support the smooth functioning of the kitchen, uphold hygiene standards, and contribute to a positive dining experience for staff within the office.

Success for this role involves a blend of culinary skills, teamwork, and efficiency. This role will help ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen by maintaining a clean and organised workspace. Success also lies in effective communication and collaboration within the catering team

Working hours are 9:00am - 15:00pm

Your key duties

Supporting the Catering Manager:

• Catering assistants collaborate closely with the catering manager to ensure that menu meals are prepared and delivered to the required standard.
• They assist in maintaining the overall efficiency of kitchen operations.
• Involved in ad-hoc duties given by the catering manager.

Maintaining Cleanliness and Order:

• Catering assistants actively contribute to the cleanliness and organisation of various areas within the kitchen, including tea points, dining areas, the main kitchen, pantry, and storage spaces.
• Their role involves regular cleaning, sanitisation, and proper storage of utensils, equipment, and ingredients.

Food Preparation and Cooking:

• Hygiene is paramount. Catering assistants follow strict hygiene practices while preparing food.
• They participate in food preparation, ensuring that ingredients are fresh, properly handled, and cooked to meet safety standards.
• Basic knowledge of cake/ biscuits made fresh
• Knowledge of Storing and Labelling Foods
• Sound Knowledge of Food Health and Safety

Breakfast and Lunch Service:

• Catering assistants play an integral role in the preparation and serving of breakfast and lunch.
• They assist in setting up stations, plating meals, and ensuring timely service to diners.
• Prepping Salads / Sandwiches/ Quiche / Sausage Rolls etc

Restocking and Inventory Management:

• Responsible for restocking the breakfast bar and salad bar, Catering Assistants maintain an inventory of necessary items.
• They monitor stock levels, replenish supplies, and organise storage areas efficiently.

Active Participation in Food Service:

• During meal service, Catering Assistants contribute by serving food to customers.
• They ensure that portions are accurate, presentation is appealing, and diners’ needs are met.
• Responsible for taking catering to meeting rooms and event spaces.

Your skills and experience

• Food Hygiene Certificate (to be presented with application)

• Previous kitchen work experience

• Sound knowledge of food safety regulations

• Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team

• Excellent verbal communication skills

• Time management and organisational skills
