Job Title:Catering Manager

Location: Hulme, Manchester

Salary: £34,391 - £36,417 per annum (Salary is based on the Sixth Form Colleges Association Support Staff pay spine from points 20-22.)

Job Type: Full Time, Fixed Term Until 30 August 2024

Closing Date: Monday 12 February 2024 at 10am

The College is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to the role of Catering Manager to provide a first-class professional catering service across all areas of the College.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all day-to-day catering operations, ensuring the food quality and presentation are fresh and modern and provided to the highest possible standard at all times and all resources are used efficiently and cost effectively.
  • Coordinate and lead the catering team to ensure all areas of the catering function operate efficiently and effectively
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory legislation with regard to food hygiene, health and safety practices including allergens awareness and procedures.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of customer service are upheld, including handling positive and negative feedback swiftly, effectively and professionally
  • Continually review the college catering provision and lead on menu development.
  • Produce the annual catering budget and be accountable for the financial performance set against this budget, striving for at least a break-even position
  • Be commercially aware; develop and implement financial controls and monitor the effectiveness of these controls
  • Work with the Director of Administration and College Services to provide catering for all college events and functions
  • Ensure effective stock management and waste management systems are implemented and monitored
  • Deal with all matters of general administration falling within the remit of the Catering Department
  • Attend the Heads of Enabling Departments meetings

About you:

Experience:

  • Substantial experience working in catering in the public or private sector
  • Experience of catering within an educational establishment
  • Experience of catering management including ordering, pricing and leading staff

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge of food and menu preparation
  • Creativity in meal and menu preparation
  • Ability to keep track of costs and advise on setting menu prices
  • Willingness to communicate with suppliers to secure best quality and prices
  • Excellent standards of literacy and numeracy
  • Ability to work with other staff as a team
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Evidence of commitment to Continuous Professional Development
  • IT literate
  • Excellent knowledge of food allergens

Qualifications:

  • City & Guilds 706 1&2 or NVQ equivalent
  • Good standard of general education including GCSE or equivalent qualification at level C or above in Maths and English
  • Level 3 qualification in Supervising Food Safety in Catering or equivalent qualification
  • Managing Food Safety Level 3
  • Managing Health & Safety Level 3
