CCTV Operator
- Hourly rate: £14.79 PAYE

- Hours: Shift patterns, put on a rota 2-3 weeks in advance and workers commit to them, 6-6. Shifts cover days, nights and weekends but initially individuals will just do day shifts until familiar with the role.
We are looking for a diligent CCTV Operator to join our Sheffield Monitoring Centre team. The role involves providing high-standard public space surveillance, traffic enforcement data collation, operating an out-of-hours call service, and ensuring the safety and security of public areas and Sheffield City Council facilities. The successful candidate will work in accordance with the CCTV Code of Practice and Operating Manual to produce evidence acceptable in criminal and civil court proceedings.
The department operates 24/7, 365-day a year, overseeing over 200 cameras, alarm monitoring, city centre ambassador coordination, and security bollard management.
Day to Day of the role:
- Provide a professional observation service for Sheffield City Council’s CCTV system.
- Operate and monitor an extensive network of over 200 CCTV cameras across the city.
- Monitor and respond to alarm systems and coordinate with city centre ambassadors.
- Manage security measures such as bollards and ensure public safety.
- Maintain constant communication with police via office radio and police airwaves.
- Handle pub watch and shoplift radios during nighttime shifts.
- Record, download, and potentially present evidence for court proceedings.
- Work a 12-hour shift pattern, with a minimum of two operators in the room at all times.
- Comply with business requirements, including alarm monitoring and the Out of Hours response service.
- Carry out administrative functions, maintain security when dealing with visitors, and handle incoming communications.
- Monitor and take follow-up action on incidents, liaising with emergency services or agencies as necessary.
- Utilise the National Police Airwave system in line with GDPR.
- Attend court to give evidence as required.
- Issue and control keys and liaise with onsite contractors, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Assist in training new starters and other team members.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Awareness and compliance with the Data Protection Act.
- Office-based administration experience.
- Understanding of effective working relationships with employees, stakeholders, and partners.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Office and other software packages.
- Excellent customer care skills.
- Flexibility to work a 24/7 shift pattern and exposure to potentially traumatic incidents.
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy.
- Must obtain a Security Industry Authority (SIA) CCTV Operators License within 3 months of appointment.
- First Aid qualification or willingness to undergo training.
- Subject to a vetting procedure by South Yorkshire Police.
