Job description

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for 2 Part Time (22.5 hrs) highly skilled and self-motivated line managers to join the Cambridgeshire Registration Service as Ceremony Officer Team Leader(s). Days and hours are negotiable but a rota of providing on-call support at weekends, working out of an office during the summer is also necessary.

The Service provides core statutory services for the official recording of key events (birth and death registrations, legal notices, marriage ceremonies, civil partnerships, citizenship ceremonies) and provision of copy certificates, in addition to non-statutory, income generating services such as naming and renewal of vows ceremonies. It is proactive, ambitious and strives to remain at the forefront of service delivery nationwide.

We are looking for enthusiastic, customer-focused people that are able to use their own initiative (within the legal framework) and can motivate a large team to constantly deliver a quality service to our customers.

Applications close 17th March shortlisting will take place 18th March and Initial interviews will take place via Teams on 20th/21st March

If you have any questions please contact Claire Norman (claire.norman@cambridgeshire.gov.uk), Ceremony Operations Manager for an informal discussion - after you have read all attached documents.

We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire and want our workforce to be reflective of this diversity, which we believe benefits our employees, the organisation and our communities

What will you be doing?

In partnership with the other Ceremony Officer Team Leader you will be responsible for :-

  • The motivation, performance management and line management of Ceremony Officers
  • Providing management cover and on call duties on a rota basis – this includes a shift pattern (Mon to Fri/Tues to Sat) throughout the whole peak season
  • Ensuring appropriate staffing for the delivery and registration of all ceremonies,  including short notice cover and out of hour cover requirements
  • Maintaining, delivering and monitoring technical expertise with a thorough understanding of statutory and non-statutory service ceremonies
  • Building and maintaining good working relationships with stakeholders including customers, venues, clergy, service providers and others and provide support wherever required.
  • Training, monitoring and developing Ceremony Officers to an agreed standard of excellence with regard to individual behaviours and high levels of customer service.
  • Helping to develop and promote new ideas and strategies within the Ceremonies team

About you

Registration experience would be beneficial (although full training and support will be provided to help the successful candidate achieve the high level of technical expertise required, so not essential).

You will be required to work anywhere in the County based on operational needs, so will need the ability to travel (including to our 79 Approved Venues).

In return the Council offers a variety of benefits including Local Government Pension Scheme, a generous annual leave allowance, comprehensive employee discounts scheme, relevant travel expenses, Employee Assistance Programme (access to free support 24 hours a day) as well as opportunities for learning and development.
