Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham Edgbaston, Birmingham UK Role Summary Birmingham Business School is seeking to appoint a Professor in Finance to contribute towards leadership of research, teaching, engagement and impact in the School. The successful candidate will be expected to take up the post of Head of the Department of Finance, one of the six departments in Birmingham Business School. The Department of Finance is a dynamic team of scholars producing internationally excellent research and providing outstanding teaching for our students. Our faculty are diverse with two thirds from ethnic minority backgrounds, and 48% are female with equality at the Associate and Professor levels. We deliver masters-level programs (MSc Investments, MSc Financial Management, MSc Financial Technology) and contribute to teaching on the BSc Accounting and Finance, MSc Accounting and Finance and MBA programs, in Edgbaston, Dubai and Singapore. We attract high quality students and consistently perform exceptionally well in student satisfaction ratings. We also have a thriving community of PhD students. Department members conduct research across a spectrum of Finance topics, with a focus on corporate finance and asset pricing. Sustainable finance is a common thread running through our research and teaching: faculty members work on issues relating to climate finance, ESG and green bonds, and is a common thread running through the modules we deliver. Our faculty consistently publish articles in prestigious outlets and are editors and associate editors of prestigious journals. They have obtained research funding from various funding bodies (British Academy, ESRC, Leverhulme Trust, NERC) and industry (Siemens). In the past two years our QS ranking in accounting and finance has increased from 88 to 73. We welcome applications from researchers working in any area of Finance although we especially welcome applications from academics working on sustainable finance and fintech issues relating to corporate finance and asset pricing. We are searching for someone with a consistent track record of publishing interesting articles in leading finance journals, grant capture, successful PhD supervision, and an impactful research agenda that influences stakeholders. You will contribute to teaching and leadership within the Department, and mentor junior faculty members.
