The vision of King’s is unashamedly to make the world a better place. Since its foundation in 1829, students and staff of King’s have dedicated themselves to the service of society. The fourth oldest university in England and based in the heart of London, King’s is committed to delivering a transformative education, enabling its students to turn their curiosity and aspiration into a lasting basis for success and social impact. Among the world’s best universities for research excellence and power, it delivers cutting-edge research that transforms people’s lives and the world’s future.
King’s College London seeks a Chair to succeed Lord Geidt, to lead Council at a time of significant challenge and opportunity, as the University responds to changing political, economic, social and technological conditions impacting global higher education. We seek a leader who will be committed to supporting the University in reaching its goals and will bring experience in leading organisations through periods of transformation, disruption and innovation.
Candidates will have gained experience as an executive director in organisations of significant scale and complexity before taking on non-executive roles, ideally as a Chair of a board or a major committee. With a record of encouraging bold thinking and guiding strategic decision making, you will have an open, transparent and non-hierarchical approach. As a public champion for King’s, representing the University at ceremonial and public engagements, you will have high levels of personal and professional credibility and integrity, and be committed to the University’s values, aims and objectives.
You will demonstrate a strong intellect with independence of mind and judgement; an enthusiasm and willingness to engage with fundraising initiatives; empathy for student needs and willingness to engage with student groups; and superb communication and relationship building skills, enabling you to gain the respect of the King’s community.
King’s College London is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and through this appointment process it is the Council’s clear stated aim to develop a candidate pool that include applicants from all backgrounds and communities. The University particularly welcomes applications from women, people from black and minority ethnic communities, the LGBTQ+ community and from disabled people.
The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 9th February 2024.
