Position: Chartered Building Surveyor

Role Overview: As a Chartered Building Surveyor, you’ll collaborate closely with the Principal Building Surveyor (PBS) to lead, develop, and manage a wide range of client-side professional building surveying duties. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of architectural and building excellence across our diverse estate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architectural Leadership: Spearhead architectural and building standards across the University Estate. From component and materials standardisation to design and construction advice, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping our physical environment.
- Fire Safety Champion: Ensure fire safety compliance across all projects, from new builds to refurbishments. Your vigilance will safeguard our community.
- Long-Term Vision: Collaborate with the PBS to create and manage our 10-year maintenance plan. Your strategic insights will ensure our campus remains vibrant and functional.
- Team Leadership: Lead and inspire a team of Building Surveying professionals. Your mentorship will drive excellence and innovation.
- Expert Advice: Provide professional building surveying guidance as requested. Your insights will be invaluable in decision-making.
As the ideal candidate you will have the below skills and experience:
- Degree in a Construction or Property-related discipline or professional chartered membership (MRICS/FRICS) from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
- Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams of professional staff.
- Extensive client-facing experience, ensuring exceptional client care.
- Strong background in professional building surveying work, including dilapidations and Party Wall matters.
- Handling design consultants on behalf of clients.
- Competence in all aspects of professional Building Surveying related to development, construction, and maintenance.
- Familiarity with Facilities Management and asset databases.
- Setting and maintaining high standards.
- Excellent report writing and oral presentation skills.
- Budget management and resource control.
- Experience in large, complex organizations with diverse building portfolios.
- In-depth knowledge of building conservation, including listed building consent negotiations.
- Commitment to personal development and continuous professional development (CPD).
- Effective people, resource, and budget management.
Experience of managing MTC contracts that would be an advantage but not essential.
- Familiarity with:
- Health & Safety legislation.
- Best practices in Building Surveying.
- Contractual procedures.
- Human Resources issues related to people management.
