Job description

Chief Cardiac Physiologist / Scientist – Echocardiography
(Recruitment and Retention Payment of 12.5% of basic salary pa pro rata until 30/09/2025)
Are you an Echocardiographer seeking an opportunity to join a team that values teamwork and working togeter in order to achieve the best for our patients? If so, we are looking for you!
The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro, is the main provider of acute healthcare to the majority of Cornwall’s residents and many seasonal visitors. The Cardiology service offers a comprehensive range of investigations and treatments appropriate to a ‘non-surgical’ centre.
We are also now going to be offering cardiac diagnostics such as Echo in newly purposed Community Diagnostic Centres across the County, providing outpatient diagnostics in our communities.
We also provide both transthoracic and transoesphageal echocardiography to meet the acute inpatient demand; and work in collaboration with community echo teams to provide outpatient services for residents of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. With the addition of new team members we will be striving to develop Physiologist Led echo services such as valve surveillance clinics, and implement a Stress Echo service.
Please contact us for an informal chat, or to arrange to come and meet the team and see the department so we can talk about how you would like to develop your career with us.
Applicants to the posts should have BSc Clinical Physiology (cardiology) or equivalent and BSE accreditation or equivalent; they should demonstrate competency in a range of non-invasive procedures. This post is suitable for experienced echocardiographers who are able to demonstrate critical thinking and reasoning. To all applicants we offer the most supportive environment for both personal and professional development to allow you to further develop your career. This is evidenced in the fact that the department has previously been awarded the Work Placed Educator Award for Excellence and Best Work Placed Educator Award from Plymouth University.
Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is the biggest provider of healthcare services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Our three main sites are Royal Cornwall Hospital Truro, St Michael’s Hospital Hayle and West Cornwall Hospital Penzance, our staff and services are available across the region.
The Trust employs 5,000+ staff, has a budget of £380 million and 750 beds. We work with health and social care organisations -including NHS Kernow and NHS England- to ensure local healthcare needs are met. We provide acute medical, surgical and specialist services to around 500,000- which can increase significantly during busy holiday periods.
The Trust has teaching hospitals status as part of the University of Exeter Medical School. Keeping at the forefront of medical advances, we continually develop clinical services and are committed to maximising the range of specialist care offered locally.
We can offer you a rewarding career in a supportive working environment. We have extensive educational links to help you realise your full potential and develop skills to provide outstanding healthcare to the local community.
Enjoy an outstanding quality of life in a place that offers surfing beaches and fishing harbours to beautiful countryside and historic towns. With clean air, plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities and excellent schools, colleges and universities (including adult education) it is the ideal place for families and for you to develop your own career.
Contribute to the smooth running of the Echo service on a day to day basis, ensuring it meets the demands of the Trust and is carried out in a safe and effective manner.
To provide expertise to the Echo service, contributing to the planning, organisation and delivery of a comprehensive, high quality and timely echo service.
Work closely with the senior management team in devising workforce strategies and planning to deliver policy changes or service developments.
For further information about this role please see the attached job description and person specification.
Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways. Please talk to us at interview about any flexible working arrangements you would prefer or require. While we may not be able to fully accommodate all requests, such requests will not be referenced during the interview scoring process, and we will fully consider and try to accommodate them for successful applicants.
