Job description

This is a role unlike any other. The BRIT School is the leading Performing and Creative Arts school in the UK. We are an innovative state school for 14 – 19 year olds. Our mission is to prepare young people for careers in the creative and performing arts. We believe, regardless of background they should be able to develop their creative talent and craft to make a powerful contribution to society.

We are sponsored by the British Record Industry and consequently have a unique relationship with the performing and creative arts industries. We are proud to be a Croydon school and equally proud to have national and international friends who support the School with professional and unique opportunities.

Our curriculum spans the fields of music, film, digital design, community arts, visual arts and design, production and performing arts, as well as a full academic programme of GCSEs and A Levels. The majority of the School’s income of c.£13.8 million comes from Government via the ESFA. We are also supported by sponsorship from The BRIT Trust, individual donations and fundraising activities such as BRIT Kids.

As COO, you will be the most senior finance professional in the organisation. You will work closely with the Board, the Principal and the senior leadership team on the development of a long-term financial strategy and at the same time, improve the accuracy of real-time reporting and forecasting, so that the organisation becomes more agile and is better equipped to respond to the challenges of the future. You will also lead operational services to ensure they are cost effective, efficient and support the School in its continued success.

A qualified accountant, you will have a successful track record of financial stewardship and operational leadership. Alongside a sound knowledge of accounting standards, governance and risk, you will also have a commercial focus. This is a visible role requiring strategic vision, exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.

We are looking for someone who will flourish in a creative school setting and is passionate about securing the best outcomes for our young people. Of most importance will be your fit with our ethos and your ability to develop excellent relationships with staff, students and stakeholders.
