City & Town Centre Regeneration Officer

Wakefield Council’s Skills and Business Development Team is recruiting!  An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new City and Town Centre Regeneration Officer to work within the Economic Growth and Skills Service. The post holder will play a key role in directly delivering a range of projects and workstreams which have the overall objective of bringing inclusive growth to our city and Town Centres making them places where residents and businesses want to live, work, invest in and visit.

The role will involve:

• Development and delivery of a place management plan for each of Wakefield’s towns and city centre that will support the reinvention of the high street.
• Providing support to Council services, public and private sector partners to bring forward projects that will increase footfall and have a lasting effect on place and the economy.
• Acting as the Council’s first point of contact for city and Town Centre businesses, seeking to understand their business needs and challenges and how Wakefield First can support.
• Co-ordination and delivery of projects which support a reduction in void units and the repurposing of buildings for a wide range of uses.
• Identifying, coordinating, and writing bids to securing funding for projects that will support the aspiration of Wakefield’s city and towns.
• Respond to challenges facing the high street by providing innovative new ideas to animate our urban centres, working in collaboration with a wide range of business, community and cultural partners.

We are looking for a highly organised individual to join this newly established team. You will need to have significant and demonstrable knowledge of working in, or with, a range of business sectors, in particular tourism, hospitality and retail as well as previous involvement in delivering high profile programmes of work relating to town and city regeneration/place management. Excellent communication skills and experience of undertaking public engagement with a range of stakeholders is also essential.
