Applications are invited for a full time Clinical Research Fellow post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to commence August 2024
This research training post is for 36 months to allow the successful candidate to complete a doctoral training programme (PhD in Medicine). This post will be an exciting opportunity to undertake academic training alongside development of clinical skills in a tertiary teaching centre.
St Michael’s Hospital is a dynamic and busy teaching hospital with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, research and postgraduate training. We have close links with the University of Bristol and collaborators across the UK and Europe. St Michael’s Hospital is also the regional referral centre for Maternal and Fetal Medicine and Gynaecological Oncology.

This post is recognised as Out Of Programme for Research (OOPR) by the Deanery, therefore does not count towards CCT.
• Lead the antenatal recruitment of patients born with congenital anomalies, including the collection of clinical and imaging data and biological samples.
• Independently identify research projects within the research group and with strategic partners from academia, this may involve designing, conducting experiments and project management.
• Ensure that knowledge and technical skills in their own, and related, areas of research are extended and informs research activities.
• Prepare and submit manuscripts for publications, and support the dissemination of research findings to academics, to clinicians and other target audiences.
• Manage communication as required with the Ethics Committee, Research Governance, Trial Steering Committee and funding agency (BHF, Oyster Foundation)
• Organise and supervise data entry and storage.
• Maintain continuous professional development and review of best practice.
The applicant will be expected to have demonstrated commitment to Maternal and Fetal Medicine and providing evidenced based care for patients during their training to date. The successful candidate should have completed a Good Clinical Practice research course. Successful applicants will be expected to recruit patients, collect biomaterials from patients and their biological parents leading to real-time data aggregation, statistical analysis and completion of laboratory analysis.
