Job description

The role This post offers an excellent opportunity for a Research Fellow to join a multi-disciplinary research team of mathematical modelers, epidemiologists and health economists based in Population Health Sciences at Bristol Medical School. The post-holder will contribute expertise in undertaking epidemiological data analyses related to Infectious Diseases including HCV, HBV, HIV/AIDS and other infections. The post is funded for 6 months in the first instance and will provide a valuable opportunity for obtaining research training and experience. What will you be doing? The post will involve helping on two projects: 1) undertaking a global systematic review and meta-analysis on the incidence of HIV among men who have sex with men, and factors associated with the risk of acquisition; and 2) undertaking analyses of specific routine longitudinal datasets to determine the incidence of HIV, HCV or TB among people who use drugs attending prevention services, and associations with levels of intervention access or exposure to structural factors. These analyses are focussed on better understanding the epidemics of HIV and associated co-infections among these marginalised groups, with specific interest on improving the evidence in low or middle income countries. You will be involved in the technical aspect of these analyses. You may also be involved in undertaking data analyses to help parameterise disease transmission models. You will collaborate with other members of the team involved in these projects. There may also be the opportunity to collaborate on projects which focus on other infections and population groups. It is hoped that you will also start developing your own research portfolio through contributing to grant applications. You should apply if We are looking for applicants with experience in undertaking epidemiological analyses, preferably of Infectious Diseases, and systematic reviews. You must have proven skills in undertaking epidemiological data analyses using STATA, R or similar packages. You will have strong IT and communication skills and work effectively within a team environment that includes Infectious Disease modellers and health economists. It is desirable that you will have an interest in the health issues of marginalised groups in lower and middle income countries.
