About the role
The Earth Observation Science (EOS) and the Space Projects & Instrumentation (SPI) Groups at the University of Leicester are seeking to appoint a Research Associate based in the School of Physics and Astronomy at Space Park Leicester. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Tim Trent to support the algorithm development of Level 1 and 2 products for a new bilateral mission focusing on measuring facility level carbon dioxide emissions from space.
The successful candidate will be responsible for development of the L1 product algorithm, working with colleagues from EOS and SPI to define the measurement equation of a new CO2 imaging spectrometer. This will include participating in lab based work to support calibration activities to enable greater insight to the detector chain hardware. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from our bilateral partners on the cloud imager, supporting the Level 2 product algorithm workflow development. You will also have the opportunity to attend national/international conferences and workshops (e.g. International Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Measurements from Space) to promote the project and your work.
About you
With a PhD in a relevant subject (or soon to obtain one), such as environmental science with a physics, maths, engineering or metrology, ideally with research experience involving Remote Sensing or spectroscopy. You will have a background working with satellite observations or making lab based measurements. You will have familiarity with lower level languages such as C or Fortran as well as the a good working knowledge of Python. You will have experience communicating research results at conferences, alongside a good or emerging publication record, working towards driving your own research. You will be a self-starter with a flexible approach to work, as well as experience of collaborative, interdisciplinary or cross-disciplinary research.Additional information
