Commissioning Engineer

Purpose of the position

Kalmar USA, Inc. is seeking Commissioning Engineers for its office in Portsmouth, VA. Will oversee and perform the delivery and completion of the on-site installation, commissioning, field testing, and handover of Cargotec Corporation’s Kalmar brand diesel-hydraulic and electric semi- and fully-automated container handling machines and systems.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will include individual responsibility for ensuring that: Kalmar brand semi- and fully-automated mobile cargo container handling machines and systems, including Kalmar Autoshuttle shuttle carriers and Kalmar AutoStrad straddle carriers, are installed, commissioned, field tested, and handed over to customers consistent with Cargotec Corporation quality and customer service standards. The mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic parts, systems, and components of Kalmar brand cranes or carriers are fully and correctly tested, optimized, and customized on-site to maximize their operational efficiency, functionality, safety and reliability within a customer's particular port or terminal configuration and operations. Any customer concerns regarding the functionality, operation, maintenance and quality of the delivered and commissioned Kalmar brand cranes or carriers are fully addressed in way that satisfies the customer's concerns while also both educating the customer regarding the limitations and requirements of the components and systems as well as protecting Cargotec Corporation's concerns. Creative technical, functional, and operational solutions are developed on-site to deliver many value-added benefits to the customer as the result of their purchase of Kalmar brand products. Issues and concerns discovered with regard to the technical, functional, or operational parts, components, or systems of the delivered, installed, commissioned, and handed over  Kalmar brand semi- and fully-automated mobile cargo container handling machines and systems are understood, documented, and conveyed in an actionable manner to Cargotec Corporation product designers, engineers, and administrators to ensure that any identified  concerns or issues with the cranes or carriers are corrected to the extent possible and that new or updated installation and commissioning processes, procedures, policies, methodologies, etc. are developed and instituted in order to prevent the future reoccurrence of the same issue or concern during future crane and carrier delivery, installation, and commissioning projects. Customer staff receives sufficient instruction, training, and support regarding the operation and maintenance of the various components and systems found on the Kalmar brand semi- and fully-automated mobile container handling machines and systems delivered to them. All safety standards, protocols, and requirements are enforced and complied with. All necessary test equipment, tools, spares etc. are available on-site and in sound working condition. Minimal domestic (15%) travel required. Monday through Friday; 40 hours per week; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; $105,477 to $107,000 year

What you’ll need to succeed

Required: Minimum of Five (5+) years of experience with the delivery, installation, commissioning, field testing, and customer handover of diesel-hydraulic and electric semi- and fully-automated container handling cranes or carriers.
