As the Ministry of Defence's commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades, and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.
The role
As a Combat Systems Test Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team where your skills and experience will make an impact.
Day to day, you will:
Conduct Submarine Commissioning, Testing and Calibration activities in accordance with the Clyde Safety Management Arrangements
Liaise with ship staff and carry out trials.
Once tasks have been completed by the Fitters, you'll conduct tests before handing over to the Navy, this can include.
Combat systems, Sonar, Communications, Fibre, and Networks.
Support implementation of the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies in the Commissioning Group area of the business, ensuring that risks assessments are carried out for safe working practices and attitudes.
Support the writing of Test Forms/procedures and assist the Senior Test Engineer in maximising the utilisation and the efficiency of the Test Engineers.
This role is full-time and based on site at Clyde, Faslane, with generous overtime of double pay on weekends and time and a half on weekdays (the ability to work 12-hour shifts really uplifts salary).
Essential experience of the Combat Systems Test Engineer
Working knowledge of Combat Systems and equipment (electrical)
Qualifications for the Combat Systems Test Engineer
NVQ 3 minimum in a relevant field
HNC of Electrical/Electronic or equivalent experience such as a Recognised Apprenticeship
The Combat Systems Test Engineer will hold or have the ability to achieve SC Security Clearance for this role.
