Job description 1

We’re looking for an experienced and talented Communications and Engagement Team Leader to co-ordinate the work of a team of Communications Officers and drive the delivery of a range of internal and external engagement and campaign activities across our channels.

This is a critical role within the Corporate Communications and Engagement department – you will act as the first point of contact for all new work requests into the Communications and Engagement team and will be integral in ensuring that we deliver consistently high-quality professional communications advice, guidance and support to teams across the Force. You will be responsible for supervising a team, so experience of managing and developing people is desirable.

You will have energy, drive and a passion for creating engaging, innovative content whilst providing high standards of customer service. The role encompasses many communications disciplines so you will use your skills and experience to work across various functions, including campaign and Engagement activity, digital channels and social media, internal Communications and media liaison.

Policing can be fast-paced and unpredictable and your exceptional organisational skills will ensure you are able to manage the demands of longer-term projects and immediate demands such as major incidents – both for yourself and your team.

You’ll be confident, articulate and have the personal self-assurance to liase with people at all levels across the organisation and with external partners and stakeholders.

You will be responsible for;

  • Leadership and Development of a team of Communications and Engagement Officers – driving high standards of quality and performance
  • Workload management – assigning projects and portfolio work to a team whilst also holding a portfolio of work of your own
  • Supporting the delivery of our employee engagement and community engagement strategies
  • Overseeing, guiding and co-ordinating the delivery of internal and external engagement and communications activity
  • Identifying opportunities for generating positive publicity for the Force
  • Working closely with colleagues in the Departmental Leadership Team to ensure a consistent approach to supervision and management throughout the department
  • Having and maintaining high levels of technical expertise in the field of Communications and Engagement and a good knowledge of systems, working practices and procedures used within the department
  • Maintaining relationships – within the department and through strong working relationships with various stakeholders across the Force and our partners
  • Consistent application of the Force corporate identity and images – ensuring products are compliant with our style guides, tone of voice guidelines and accessibility requirements.

To apply for this role please submit your CV along with a covering letter (no longer than A4) which demonstrates experience against the following criteria:

  • Experience in managing, developing and appraising people and/or teams
  • Experience of planning, constructing and delivering successful, internal and external, creative communications campaigns
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage an assigned portfolio of work, manage several projects, deadlines and conflicting timescales with a proven ability to work to tight deadlines

Shortlisting will take place by Monday 22 April 2024

Interviews will be held on Thursday 2 May and Friday 3 May 2024 at Wiltshire Police HQ, Devizes.

The position is agile with the ‘normal place of work’ being Wiltshire Police HQ, Devizes. Agile workers also have flexibility to work from other stations within the Wiltshire force area or from home depending on demand and business requirement.
