We’re bringing blossom to Balsall Heath, and we need your help. In April we’re opening our ‘Blossom Branch’ on Ladypool Road, a space designed for locals to learn about our project, participate in nature themed activities and help shape the project’s tree planting ambitions.
We’re looking for someone to manage and care for this space on a day-to-day basis, making it a welcoming and fun place which puts community at the heart of everything it does.
This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in equal instalments over the year. You'll work 800 hours over the duration of the contract, and on average
This is our anticipated salary from 1st April but is subject to final confirmation following the Trust’s annual pay review process.
What it's like to work hereThis project is a new venture as we trial different ways of collaborating with communities in large cities. You'll be based at the Blossom Branch in this specially created role, and will follow a working pattern which reflects the lifestyle of surrounding communities, for which availability to work weekends and one evening a week is required. Working with the Community and Events Officer you will report to the Project Manager and wider Blossom team, with opportunities to shadow and meet colleagues at other National Trust places and projects.
What you'll be doingResponsibility for the day-to-day running of our blossom branch will lie with you. Although the space has a small capacity, it is essential that you create a safe environment that will entice people to come through the doors and learn about the project. From safeguarding and risk assessments to locking up and cleaning, you will be actively engaged in its operations, acting as Duty Manager for the site. As Duty Manager, you'll ensure that the Branch is able to open safely to visitors, addressing any health and safety issues during operation, and undertaking emergency protocols if required. You'll take responsibility for and resolve issues which may affect staff, volunteers or visitors during opening hours.
As the face of the project, we will be asking you to review and facilitate the delivery of nature themed activities and events at the Branch, checking that the content, duration and timings are appropriate for our target audiences. Alongside the project team and local collaborators, you'll help determine what events and activities the site runs, empowering locals to champion nature in new ways. You’ll also be responsible for managing a small team of volunteers, ensuring that they have a positive and beneficial experience, whilst ensuring logistics such as rotas and expenses are communicated and managed effectively.
