Location(s): Carlisle

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Salary: £33,820 - £34,723

Are you able to make things happen?

Do you have the experience and motivation to really make a difference in a local community?

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to join our Community Development team. This is a varied and challenging role, and we are looking for someone with the right skills and attributes to join the team, working to support the local community and our local Councillors from our Border, Fellside and North Carlisle Community Panel which covers the ward areas of Belah, Brampton, Corby & Hayton, Houghton & Irthington, Longtown, Stanwix Urban and Wetheral.

This is an incredibly diverse role, and the right person will need to be highly adaptable; responding to local community issues, as well as having the organisational skills to initiate, plan and support projects.

Whilst you will collaborate with the team in many areas, the focus of this post will be the ongoing support to the Elected Members of the Community Panel and taking the lead on the initiation and progression of Community Development in your area including the Community Network and associated network activity

The role includes supporting members of the team, facilitating the continuing development of community groups, use of appropriate funding streams and assisting communities to identify and mobilise assets.

This job involves proactive work, engaging with the local area, understanding the needs of the community, and working to bring together the right support and resources, enabling groups to work towards positive change and development.

The successful candidate for this role will have proven experience in Community Development, as well as a knowledge of the local area and the drive to make a difference.

Excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as well as a strong focus on customer service and the ability to engage with many people, from voices in the community, to senior management and elected members. You will need to be able to travel across the panel area and sometimes further, and this role will include some evening and weekend activity.

If this sounds like you, and you’re ready for a new and rewarding career step, then please apply today!

What can we offer you!

  • Excellent training and development offers
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Boost your pension with Shared Cost Additional Voluntary Contributions (facilitated by AVC Wise)
  • Various perks and discounts schemes, including money off your phone contract and local gyms
  • Competitive rates of pay
