Job description

We have new opportunity available for a Community Educatorto join our dynamic team with one position available that will be stationed across several areas of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Please be aware that within the next 12 weeks, there may be an additional position opening for the same role. Should this occur, we will consider appointable candidates from the current recruitment campaign for potential placement in the second role.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are not limited to firefighting. We also respond to a wide range of incidents, increasingly those that involve our rescue capability. We also work closely with other emergency services and our local authority partners to deliver an emergency response and protect our communities.

The Community Educatorrole:

This role involves delivering a range of services to our communities, working together to achieve our purpose of Safer People, Safer Places. Community Educators play a crucial role in reducing the risk of fire and delivering targeted intervention activities to those most at risk.

Your key responsibilities as our Community Educatorwill include:

  • Conducting home visits to provide advice and guidance on safety matters, including the installation of detectors
  • Supporting the community through initiatives, events, and school visits, collaborating proactively with partner agencies and organisations
  • Implementing safeguarding procedures and reporting as required
  • Delivering presentations and education programs to diverse groups, including training the existing workforce to provide effective safety advice
  • Driving to various locations regularly and undertake physical tasks, such as working on a step ladder and lifting/loading equipment

Skills we are looking for in our Community Educator:

  • Enthusiastic individual with confidence and self-motivation
  • Passion for learning and community engagement
  • Ability to prioritise workload and work effectively as part of a team
  • Effective interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings
  • Capability to undertake an enhanced criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service
