Job description

Are you passionate about supporting young people? Can you delve deep into local networks and find people who want to champion our young people through volunteering? Are you searching for a role where you can make a real difference? Where your time can be transformational?

MCR Pathways is a transformational secondary school mentoring and talent development programme supporting over 5000+ care experienced and other vulnerable young people experiencing disadvantage to realise their full potential through education. MCR’s programme dramatically improves educational achievement, wellbeing and post-school destinations.

At its heart, MCRs model is relationship-based mentoring that has evolved into an integrated programme supporting primary school transition and delivering weekly group work in the first two years of secondary school. Young people from 3rd year upwards are carefully matched with a volunteer, trained mentor, to meet in school, one-to-one, on a weekly basis. Young people also have the opportunity to access talent taster employability, further and higher education experiences.

We’re looking for a Community Engagement Officer who wants to be an integral part of our programme in North Aberdeenshire (Banff, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Mintlaw, Peterhead and Turriff). You will complement our national and regional approaches to marketing and partnership building, by focussing on engagement work at a local level and in close collaboration with your local MCR school(s) and our Pathways Coordinators based there.

The role inolves hybrid working. There is some home working but you must be able to work in person on the ground and in schools in your designated area. You must also be willing to undertake occasional travel across the north region to meet with colleagues and attend training as required.

Job Purpose

The Community Engagement Officer will support our school teams to make real, substantive change for the better for our young people. Your role is to truly engage at the grassroots level and stay connected to, and have a presence in the area you serve. It is a diverse role in which you’ll need to be a talented and organised multi-tasker: you could be peppering a local area with a new marketing campaign one day, and presenting to the local faith community the next. You’ll be the focal point for local awareness and information events, and you’ll be training those mentors coming through our recruitment pipeline in your local area. You’ll need to be able to support your local Pathways Coordinator in school in the event of absence, ensuring that mentoring relationships are organised and supported in their absence.

You will need to be a flexible person for this role. You’ll need to read beyond the job description and help us do whatever it takes to reach our MCR vision. As we try to unlock the potential of young people, no matter their circumstances, we work collectively as a team to unlock our potential, no matter our circumstances. The year has its peaks and troughs across our different teams, so sometimes you’ll be called on to focus on one area over another. Working together as a community will help us achieve our vision easier and faster across the North of Scotland.

Please note:

  • A driving licence and having a vehicle available for work is essential for this role. You will be reimbursed for all work related mileage.
