Job description


The post of Community Fundraiser is an important link between the hospital charity and the local community including Trust staff. The post holder will have responsibility for managing community fundraising activity securing financial support for the charity and supporting the Fundraising Manager as an active member of the charity team.
The post holder will require a good knowledge of fundraising and have considerable energy and enthusiasm that will inspire the patients, staff, visitors and members of the local community to choose Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity as their preferred charity to support. This fundraiser will establish and maintain relationships with individual fundraisers, local businesses, staff and volunteer networks. The Community Fundraiser will need to lead projects, take responsibility for delivering programmes of work and use their initiative to increase community donations.
The purpose of the role is to lead and develop Community Fundraising for the charity to increase the levels of engagement and ensure that high profile fundraising campaigns and events are in place that will generate funds to agreed targets.
The post holder must be inventive and highly organised. Working closely with groups and individuals, the ideal candidate will have an outgoing personality, keen for direct contact with people, good at motivating and self-confident.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) is the main provider of acute and specialist care services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We serve a population of around 500,000 people - a figure that can increase significantly with
visitors during the busiest times of the year. We employ approximately 6,700 staff and have a budget of approximately £580 million.
We are a teaching hospital in partnership with the University of Exeter Medical School, University of Plymouth School of Nursing and Midwifery, and Peninsula Dental School.
The Knowledge Spa on the Royal Cornwall Hospital site is the base for medical and nursing as well as ongoing education for health professions in clinical and non-clinical roles.

The Community Fundraiser will;
Have autonomous responsibility for all aspects of Community Fundraising activity for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity with responsibility for generating income through this sector against agreed targets.
Research, develop and implement high profile community fundraising campaigns to increase levels of engagement and generate income.
Be the key contact and account manager for community, corporate and staff fundraisers. Using existing experience and knowledge give careful consideration of available fundraising streams and activities available to fundraisers and provide well informed advice and direction in line with latest fundraising legislation and best practice guidance.
Lead, plan, co-ordinate and publicise charity organised events to generate direct income or encourage further support or registrations to a Community Fundraising Campaign. They will be active in the setup of such events which can involve an element of physical effort involved in the packing, loading and unloading of vehicles and physical set up.
At all times be professional and sensitive when working with all fundraisers, with particular care and regard for those that may have emotionally sensitive stories and motives for supporting the charity.
Attend and frequently lead community, corporate and staff events with frequent travel across the County. This will include weekend and evening hours, with time being managed through a combination of flexible working and TOIL (In agreement with the line manager).
Establish, promote and support RCHT staff fundraising. Maintain excellent, co-operative and supportive relationships with hospital staff, volunteers and staff from charities supporting the hospital.
Plan initiatives with Trust departments to promote their charitable funds and support, guide and offer training where appropriate for staff on their future fundraising activity.
Communications and publicity
Create publicity for the charity and community events through social media, internal publications, content for the Trust Website and produce media releases for local press.
Organise and attend cheque presentations and photo opportunities with fundraisers and Trust staff both on and off site. Produce and give presentations and talks to a wide range of groups across the community and have the ability to talk in a sensitive and persuasive manner to encourage support, maintaining professional standards at all times.
Produce web and social media content across a range of channels to encourage engagement from followers and increase future support of the charity.
Charity Team
Support the Fundraising Manager with the supervision of the Fundraising Assistant and manage their work when the Fundraising Manger is on annual leave.
On a daily basis, take responsibility for logging information and communication on the charity database. Be responsible for accurate recording and use of the database in line with data protection regulations. Ensure donor acknowledgement is processed promptly after receipt of funds in liaison with the Fundraising Assistant.
Be responsible for the recruitment and training of charity volunteers to support Community Fundraising activities.
Personal and professional
Be able to work as a team member with effective interpersonal skills. Have a positive and flexible approach, able to adapt in a changing environment.
Have a strong ‘can do’ attitude with a willingness to get involved in a range of activities. The role of Community Fundraiser is varied and with this in mind you should be willing to work alongside fundraisers e.g. participate, manage or support whether it be a bucket collection or bag packing in a supermarket, attending and networking at a black tie dinner event, promoting the charity on an information stand or even wearing the charity mascot outfit!
Keep up to date with relevant fundraising practises, techniques and laws and disseminate, where appropriate, the information to the rest of the charity team. Understand and adhere to the data protection and freedom of information acts.
Represent Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity positively and professionally at all times.
Adhere at all times to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity’s policies and procedures and ensure the effective and efficient use of the charity’s resources.
