The Role & Key Responsibilities
The Role Following the recent restructure of the TFU Compliance Unit, within Surrey and Sussex Firearms Joint Command, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated person to support us on delivering firearms training across both Forces.
The postholder is responsible for supporting the delivery of training that is safe, current and accredited; ensuring our Officers remain competent in their operational role. Key Responsibilities
- The postholder will quality assure and conduct Compliance checks of all Firearms training Event packs, in particular the development of Risk assessments and Safety briefings. You will assist with the planning, preparation and assessment of Firearms training for firearms officers within Operations Command to National Standards.
- Whilst supporting the delivery of Firearms Command Training, you will also perform the role of the Police Range Safety Inspector and associated tasks where necessary. Your day to day duties will include:
•To support the development and implementation of structured firearms and non firearms training programmes to National Police Firearms Curriculum Standards for Authorised Firearms Officers and Police staff. •To review and develop firearms policy and procedure documents, processes and risk assessments in support of the CFI To support the CFI in the maintaining of the College of Policing firearms training licence and PSQMS
- To support the design and develop of a varied and fully compliant National Police Firearms Training Curriculum programme, to ensure that weapon handling skills, safety procedures and shooting standards are developed and maintained.
- To maintain individual Firearms Officer’s training records to ensure that they remain operationally accredited in operational and command role profiles through the use of Chronicle training system
- To carry out the quality assurance of Firearms Training Event Packs as a point of contact for the three Firearms Training bases and Command Training in the preparation of Training Event Packs prior to submission to the CFI for sign off.
- To carry out quality assurance checks of activity based risk assessments for training event packs and develop and maintain venue and equipment risk assessments for all firearms training for submission to the CFI. To maintain a register of those training events and risk assessments.
- Support peer assessments for all Firearms instructors as required through the Trainer Monitoring process and to provide instructors and trainers support and training in the development of activity based risk assessments as required by the CFI.
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this job you’ll be an articulate, self motivated person, happy working as part of a team and able to demonstrate a good level of IT literacy in: MS Window based Outlook, MS Office, Word, PowerPoint and Excel applications.
The ability to take a holistic view of departmental needs and prioritise workload along with experience of the Chronicle training management system.
History and background in the delivery of Firearms Training within the last 12 months of application.
Knowledge of the Authorised Professional Practice (Firearms) Evidence of excellent skills in planning and organising on an individual and team level.
