The Egg at Theatre Royal Bath is the only theatre in the South West of England dedicated to producing and presenting work with exacting artistic standards for children and young people. Activity includes presenting a year-round programme of professional theatre for young audiences in our 126-seat venue; the Incubator, an idea and artist development strand; Egg Production House, producing and touring work nationally and internationally; delivery of a Level 3 in Performing Arts in partnership with Bath College; a Theatre School for ages 5 - adult; an adult creative learning programme and the roll-out of The Wonderfund which distributes 5,000 free Egg tickets to state school children across the region each year, funded by benefactors and a year-round pay-it-forward scheme.
We are thrilled to once again be working with writer and performer, Toby Thompson, on his adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exup ry's beloved novella, The Little Prince. Toby is working with director Nik Partridge and designer Anisha Fields to develop this one-person show. His work is contemplative, and offers playful, poignant musings on life's biggest questions.
Toby's background is in spoken word and performance poetry; his writing is very lyrical and rhythmic. We imagine that the composer/Sound Designer will work closely and collaboratively with Toby and Nik alongside their development of the script. Spending a significant amount of time in the rehearsal room is essential.
Toby's first play for young audiences, I Wish I Was A Mountain, produced by The Egg, won the Audience Award for Best Production at the IPAY showcase, attended by 500 international delegates, and secured six and a half months of touring in China and Ireland. It will appear in multiple venues across Canada in 2024-2025.
