The Luckiest Girl Alive is a sensitive and inspiring story. Using puppetry it tells the life of activist, campaigner and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) survivor Hoda Ali in her epic journey across the globe as her family sought medical care from the dangerous effects of FGM.
We are looking for 3 creative roles, to bring to life the different aspects of Hoda's story. We actively encourage applications from those who identify as female and for whom Hoda's story and Refugee Week resonates. The roles are:
Projection Designer
Fee: £2,160, anticipated breakdown: 12 days @ £180 a day.
Role responsibilities:
- Work with the designer and director to develop projection that creatively represents different settings in Hoda's story as visual support to the puppetry and dialogue.
- To build on past projection experiments from previous research and development.
- To explore "creative captioning" as support to the dialogue.
- The above work, that can be realised within the constraints of modest spaces; in studio, and non-theatre settings.
Lighting Designer
Fee: £1,260, anticipated breakdown: 7 days @ £180 a day.
Role responsibilities:
- Create lighting states that represent different settings in Hoda's story as visual support to the puppetry and dialogue within the constraints of modest spaces, in studio, and non-theatre settings.
- Create lighting states that support projection design.
Sound Designer
Fee: £1,800, anticipated breakdown: 10 days @ £180 a day.
Role responsibilities:
- To create a soundscape that supports the different spaces within Hoda's story, including Somalia, Djibouti, Italy and England, in rural and city settings.
- To take past sound experiments from previous research and development as a starting point/inspiration.
- The above work, that can be realised in the constraints of modest spaces, in studio, and non-theatre settings.
Per diems, travel and accommodation will be negotiated as required.
