Job description

Construction Director

£130,000 – £180,000 plus full benefits and bonuses

Specialist Reinforced Concrete (RC) Frame, Basement and Groundwork Subcontractor

About the Opportunity:

I am looking for someone who is either already a Construction Director / Operations Director who has a strong background working for rival RC frame and groundwork subcontractors in the UK, or someone who has hit a glass ceiling where they are and is in search of that next step up to Construction Director level because they are ready for it (again must be from a rival contractor though in a Contracts Manager or similar position).

If you’ve worked in this sector at either of those levels, you’ll know what is involved in the day-to-day duties; Your position will sit alongside the people at the top of the business and will effectively report to the existing executive board members while overseeing operations across multiple live sites where concrete frames, groundwork, and basements packages are being completed (package values range from £5m up to £50m each). You’ll be expected to oversee and develop the site-based management and teams while integrating with the various clients of the business to make sure projects are carried out in the best manner possible. And yes, while programme deadlines, budgets and safety on every site is crucial to any successful contractor in this field, you’ll also be one of the senior members of the team whose responsibility it is to develop client relationships and to make sure everything keeps moving in the right direction (and making improvements along the way too).

I should highlight though; you won’t be doing all of this alone. The team at this business is exceptional. They have one of the best operations, technical, safety, engineering, commercial, and preconstruction teams and are widely known and recognised for their technical capability and professional approach.

About the Employer:

This contractor currently turns over in excess of £100m per annum, completing complex London-based projects for a variety of main contractors and developers. Having worked with this contractor for the past 10+ years I have seen them develop in both size and capability. They have a polished brand built on technical capability and a view to deliver prestigious projects around the capital of the UK. They have a very modern edge to the business while maintaining traditional roots. I know each of the directors of this business and I would highly recommend them all as leaders in their own rights, but also as a unit that works well together to make the business stand out.

On a personal note, not only is this business incredibly strong, but it also has a very likable team that yes works on complex projects with tight expectations, but does so in a calm and considered fashion, making sure clients are left with a positive experience, which is why so much of their work is repeat business and is also why so many of the team have been with the business for so many years.

About the Requirements:

To be successful I am looking for individuals who have worked in this position or who are ready for this position and have a strong background working for concrete frame, groundwork, and basement subcontractors in the UK.

It has also been specified that I am only to consider people who have held stable periods with each employer as this position is important and my client only wants to consider people who are in it for the long run.

I would expect that individuals will either be degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or construction management.

About the Remuneration:

This is a director-level role, where you will have ownership of your own department and a seat at the table to help influence the future of this business, so obviously the package will fit the level of responsibility. So, I’m open to considering what people are currently on versus what they are looking for salary and benefits-wise.

So, in short, if you are successful in getting this opportunity you’ll be paid well with benefits at every level down the road. All fantastic opportunities should offer fantastic rewards and this one will not disappoint.
