Applicants are invited for this full time (10PA) Older Adult Acute Hospital Liaison substantive post. This is an exciting time for Elderly Mental Health Liaison Psychiatry service as we continue to develop into a more Multidisciplinary Hospital based Mental Health Team. This post, along with a recent expansion of the Old Age liaison multidisciplinary team, represents a commitment to maintain and develop the work of the Old Age Liaison psychiatry service in NHS Ayrshire and Arran. You will join 6 other Old Age Consultant Psychiatrists who are a proactive and supportive group who meet regularly, with additional peer group meetings and internal teaching.
This post holder will work closely with the existing EMH Liaison Consultant in developing a
fully integrated pan-Ayrshire EMH Liaison Service with close working links with Care of Elderly
department. The primary clinical role of the Consultants in Old Age Liaison will be to enhance the mental health of patients in the two district general hospitals (University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse) and four community hospitals (Biggart Hospital, East Ayrshire Community Hospital, Ayrshire Central Hospital (including Woodland View Inpatient unit) and Girvan Hospital). The successful applicant will have consultant responsibility for a shared proportion of these inpatient beds, primarily based at University Hospital Ayr.
We work closely with a Dementia Nurse Consultant jointly funded by NHS Ayrshire and Arran, University of the West of Scotland and Alzheimer Scotland. In addition there is a well developed MDT comprising Hospital Liaison Nurses and Mental Health ANPs with a 1 WTE equivalent team leader and admin support.
The post holder would have opportunities to be involved in all aspects of and further development in the EMH Liaison Service. The successful applicant will be expected to evaluate the service and its impact on admissions and discharges to acute and mental health beds with other qualitative and quantitative outcomes.
If the post holder has Educational Supervisor approval, there is also an opportunity to supervise trainees in this post. The post holder will have an office, and suitable IT facilities (with remote access). All new Consultants are initially offered a minimum of 1 PA for personal development in relation to appraisal and revalidation.
The New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 T&Cs apply, offered on a 10 PA basis. Opportunities may exist for EPAs subject to service requirements. Part-time/job share will be considered. Participation in the out of hours rota (around 1:30) is essential.
Appropriately experienced applicants must have Full GMC Registration and current Licence to Practice, and be on the GMC Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of the anticipated award of CCT/CESR by the date of interview.
