Job description

Consumer Protection Oversight Lead
Glasgow

As a Barclays Consumer Protection Oversight Lead, you will be accountable for providing proactive oversight of Barclays identification and mitigation of Consumer Protection risk. You will also be supporting Compliance, ensuring the businesses are implementing appropriate measures to mitigate the risk of poor customers outcomes through our processes, services and products.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, established in 1690, with a legacy of success, quality, and innovation. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

What will you be doing?
  • Maintaining standard with the Compliance Frameworks and Policy team, and controlling requirements for managing thematic Customer Protection risk
  • Supporting the business to implement regulatory changes or other business activity related to Consumer Protection
  • Undertaking thematic risk assessments across the group relating to Customer Protection
  • Determining and assessing the potential impact of any external events (such as fines) in relation to Consumer Protection across the Barclays Group
  • Assisting in the BOC oversight through Risk Assessment processes such as One Risk Assessment (OneRA)
  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and provide training to BOC and business areas on the interpretation of Policies, Standards and associated documentation
  • Supporting the identification and raising of any issues aligned to the Customer Protection Policies and Standards

What we’re looking for:
  • Compliance professional with experience in the industry and of the regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of financial services across both retail and wholesale banking and ability to demonstrate thought leadership
  • Experience of working, presenting to and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Solid partnering, influencing and collaboration with stakeholders and peers
  • A good grasp of data and a solid level of competency in the use of data to drive insights

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills particularly as relates matters of law and regulation and how they apply to business and client matters
  • Experience in overseeing regulatory change, preferably Consumer Duty
  • Professional qualifications, certifications and/or registrations relevant to Compliance

Where will you be working?
Our new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration. A place where everyone can bring their true selves to work and reach their full potential. Home to 5,000 of our colleagues, our Tradeston campus will support the community in more ways than one - by creating thousands of new career opportunities and celebrating local artists. A short walk from Central Station on the south of the Clyde, it will be a key location for the Barclays business that will deepen our ties with the city and its communities.
