Empower the region to move away from waste and towards making the most of the resources they consume and throw away, by helping the manage resources more sustainably, minimise waste and increase re-use and recycling?
Barnsley, Doncaster, and Rotherham Councils (BDR) are working together to manage the resources residents consume and throw away by working to ensure more sustainability, minimising waste, and increasing re-use and recycling. Our partnership has delivered a cutting edge, Public Finance Initiative waste treatment facility that extracts valuable resources and composts like material. It produces refuse-derived fuel and diverts over 98% of waste from landfill and increases the amount of material moved up the waste hierarchy.

You will be integral in managing and monitoring the BDR PFI contract and ensuring it delivers efficiencies and environmental benefits in an ever-changing legislative framework. You will be analytical and innovative in your approach to how resources are managed across the region, ensuring the BDR and South Yorkshire Partnerships remain cost effective whilst contributing to the regions carbon reduction ambitions.
You will have previous experience of waste management and waste legislation, contract management and monitoring, project management and finance, budgets and forecasting.
You will need to be a natural communicator with the confidence to interact with a range of different audiences and build positive relationships with them and other key stakeholders. First class, analytical, report writing and presentation skills and an ability to multi-task will be essential to deliver excellent quality work on time. Partnership work also demands diplomacy, tenacity, patience and good organisational skills, you will need to be persistent, persuasive and at times challenging. The role will include a mixture of flexible hybrid working from locations across B,D & R and homeworking.
