The Role

 

Reporting to the Head of Workplace Services, this role is for an experienced analytical greenhouse gas (GHG) and environmental champion who can deliver a transformed, sustainable organisation by achieving its Net Zero Carbon and waste targets.

 

We are looking for someone with experience in developing and implementing GHG and environmental policies, managing environmental activities and best practice, good communication skills, with the ability to act as an agent of change.

 

You will be responsible for developing and delivering CAA’s sustainability roadmap by coordinating and delivering GHG and environment reduction programmes across the CAA’s property assets, corporate operations, and supply chain partners.

 

As a leading GHG and environmental champion, you will play a critical role in driving cultural and behavioural change, providing GHG and environmental sustainability advice, and engaging with stakeholders at all levels to promote awareness and achieve the CAA’s stated GHG and environmental sustainability targets.

 

The role does require some business travel, mainly to other CAA offices and occasionally to supply chain partners’ premises.

 

Core Accountabilities

 

  • Manage and reduce GHG and environmental impact from CAA operations,
  • Obtain and maintain ISO 50001 and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems requirements.
  • Responsible for GHG and environmental monitoring, measuring, analysis and reporting internally and externally CAA’s corporate GHG and environmental performance (including Scope 3).
  • Lead and undertake assessments and develop and implement a strategy and road map for the CAA’s GHG and environmental impacts including corporate buildings, fleet and supply chain partners, creating programmes and actions to reduce GHG and environmental impacts.
  • Influential across the CAA’s corporate service teams, its key strategic stakeholders and supply chain partners in developing programmes and actions which actively reduce the CAA’s GHG emissions and other environmental impacts.
  • Provide leadership, advice, and support operational delivery of GHG and environmental reduction projects across the CAA’s entire property portfolio that achieves the long-term vision of CAA’s Board and Directors.
  • Focus on driving continuous improvement to enhance and optimize colleague and external stakeholder experience of the office environment to provide sustainable productive places to work.
  • Ensure strong internal client relationships are developed and maintained with key stakeholders, landlords and their agents.


About You

 

In order to thrive in this role, you’ll need to be able to work independently, take ownership of your work and be committed to delivering an excellent service to your stakeholders to secure their buy in.

 

This is a brand new role that focuses specifically on facilities, building / property and supply chain environmental efficiency.  This role will be contributing towards the achievement of CAA’s overall ambition of achieving net zero operation.  On this basis, you will need to be a self-starter that is able to build, establish and manage environmental policies and operational practices that contribute to a net zero operation, using your experience and knowledge.  You must be able to communicate at all levels of the organisation and be a champion to drive and deliver workplace services environmental improvements.

 

To be considered for this role you should be able to demonstrate the following experience, knowledge, and skills:

 

Experience

 

  • Obtaining accreditation and undertaking GHG emissions and environmental assessments in line with ISO50001, ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) and ISO14001 requirements.
  • Compliance with environmental regulations including ESOS and SECR
  • GHG and environmental external reporting disclosure frameworks
  • Working across organizations to develop cross-cutting solutions to complex challenges based on analysis.
  • Self-motivation and organized to manage a demanding and varied workload.
  • Leading, influencing, and negotiating with teams, departments, and stakeholders

 

Knowledge

 

  • Hold an environmental or related degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of GHG and environmental sustainability issues relevant to core and non-core service areas.
  • GHG Protocol Corporate Standard and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems requirements and ISO 50001.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building rating methods such as BREAAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) or LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and embodied carbon impacts
  • Knowledge of carbon mitigation and adaptation and it’s communication, across different sectors and organizations.
  • Understanding of Scienced Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
  • Up to date understanding of energy, carbon and environmental policy developments and services.

 

Skills

 

  • Passionate about addressing complexity through understanding data and collaborating closely with people to make change happen.
  • Strong analysis and decision-making skills with good attention to detail.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent written and communication skills and proven ability to communicate complex technical information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and within and across different teams.

Working under the direction of the Head of Workplace Services, you will have the opportunity and autonomy to shape and develop best practice workplace services environmental policies, processes, activities and initiatives. Once defined, you will be working collaboratively with the wider Workplace Services and Finance and Corporate Services teams to guide, implement and monitor environmental changes and activities.

 

Additional Information


For many appointments within the CAA, these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.


To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be undertaken. For this role this will need to be 5 years.
