Critical Incident Community Response Coordinator

PO1

Full-time; 35 hours per week; Until 31/03/2025, with potential for further extension (subject to funding)

Location: The Woolwich Centre, Wellington Street, SE18 6HQ with potential for some home-based working

We need a versatile and enthusiastic officer to join our Safer Communities team to drive a range of activities in response to violent incidents that have a high impact on local communities. You will identify who has been affected (e.g. witnesses, at-risk demographic groups, nearby residents and workers) and establish the community’s concerns and needs.

You will then coordinate delivery of community engagement activity and the provision by partners of services targeting specific needs, to support the community to recover, build resilience and improve long-term confidence in police, council and partner services.

This is a fairly new post, enabling us to deliver more quickly to communities affected by serious violence. Your work will continue to embed the best practice delivery model across all community safety areas; providing support, visibility and reassurance in incident locations. using best practice developed from pilot locations; providing support, visibility and reassurance to developing area of work that the Safer Communities team has piloted; this new post will embed it and enable us to deliver more quickly to communities affected by serious violence. Your work will contribute to shaping the delivery model as we learn more about what works and you will have input to developing its direction.

Much of the role will depend on working successfully with partners so skills and experience in building strong partnership working are essential. Key partners will include the police, third sector services, business and community groups and social landlords.

As part of our lively and friendly Safer Communities team you will work alongside staff tackling hate crime, town centre issues, domestic abuse, modern slavery, prevention of extremism and varied crime reduction projects, giving plenty of opportunity for collaboration.

This role will give you chance to demonstrate the Council’s key staff values, especially: Taking Ownership – Doing Things Better – Working Together.

You will need experience of engaging with diverse communities, excellent communication skills and ability to work on your own initiative.

A successful DBS check will be required
