About the opportunity:
The Nuclear Decommissioning Authorities (NDA) Programme and Project Partners (PPP) contract model, allows the skills and expertise of both Sellafield Ltd and their Lot Partners to be combined to deliver a step change in major project delivery
The Special Nuclear Materials (SNM) Future State Programme is one of the most complex challenges facing the NDA in dealing with the UK's nuclear legacy is managing the stockpile of separated civil plutonium.
The SNM Future State Programme will deliver capabilities to ensure the right material, is in the right package, in the right store to maintain the safe and secure storage of plutonium. To deliver the programme mission there are several tranches that must be delivered. The SNM Future Storage tranche will focus on providing additional modern standard, resilient storage capacity to store 100 Year Packages until the final disposition solution is implemented.
For this new team, we are seeking an experienced CS&A Engineer to assume the position of Responsible Engineer. You will report to the Project Engineering Manager and lead a team of more junior engineers in the engineering delivery of projects to time, cost and quality.
Some of your responsibilities will be:
  • To carry out resource planning and to engage and maintain resources necessary to deliver the specified work programme.
  • To deploy resources to project areas according to business needs, priorities and 'best athlete' principle.
  • Line manager duties for supervision and performance of direct reports and team members (Control of work task/assignments - supervised, able, trained & competent to do assigned tasks).
  • To effectively lead and manage members of the functional team including appropriate collaboration with PPP parties for the professional development of team members in a way which balances the needs of the individual and project.
  • To promote and facilitate best practice for the sharing of discipline-specific LFE between the project and across PPP.
  • To plan and programme work in a way which is consistent with the requirements of the staged business model, effective risk management principles and is fully aligned with the Project.
  • To carryout effective and proportionate risk management and assurance activities including to call functional engineering or design capability reviews.
  • Managing the generation of design deliverables that define and preserve the design intent and are organised and align with the plant configuration.
  • Identifying appropriate design and engineering standards and practices to be used for the delivery of the portfolio.
  • To adopt validation and verification practices to key aspects of work to
  • Lead the development and control of the functional elements of the project baseline scope, schedule and budget using the project change control process.
  • Monitoring, reviewing and reporting on functional status, progress against schedules and implementing corrective and recovery actions.
  • Manage personal/team budget & schedule to meet targets.

  • Relevant Engineering Qualifications
  • Experience of working within a regulated and quality assured system
  • Experience with Engineering planning and Cost estimating
  • Record of successful delivery including recent positions influencing professional engineers and guiding technical personnel
