We are looking for an inspirational, highly skilled practitioner (instrument or voice) to lead our outstanding and thriving Music Department. You will have the opportunity to enhance our vision of ‘opportunity and achievement for all’ as the Leader of a department with a strong track record of results. Passionate about music education, you will be an inspiration to our young musicians.

The successful candidate will lead the Music Department and this position offers an excellent opportunity to play a pivotal role in our high achieving school. If you are passionate about your subject and want to really make a difference to the lives of young people then Horsforth School could be the school for you. The successful candidate will be a dynamic and enthusiastic teacher and will have the opportunity of working in a supportive and experienced Music Department with a strong team ethos. Our extra-curricular groups include Concert Band, Girls’ Choir, Boys Vocal Group, Senior Girls’ Choir, 6th Form Jazz Band, Close Harmony and String Group, with several other groups and events regularly led by our A Level Music Group. The successful candidate will be committed to leading high quality extra-curricular groups and public performances and possess the ability to inspire and enhance our students’ understanding and enjoyment of the subject.

If you are an inspiring, energetic and enthusiastic leader who can help us to create a nurturing environment within which all students can reach their full potential; are a passionate teacher who would like to develop their leadership skills and pedagogy in a supportive and successful school and want to work in a school that OFSTED has recognised to have outstanding behaviour from our students, this is the job for you.

Interested candidates should evidence in their application grades achieved in relevant examination boards (for example ABRSM, Trinity, Rock School). They should also identify whether they studied instrument, voice or composition at University.

For our 1500 students, Horsforth School provides an engaging environment of discovery and growth. For our colleagues too, this setting offers some great benefits. Located in north-west Leeds, the school is just five miles from the city centre with its thriving retail, leisure and cultural facilities, yet on the edge of open countryside. York, Harrogate and the Dales are within easy reach.

GCSE and A Level results are consistently well above the national averages and in both 2022 and 2023 the school had the best A Level results in the whole of Leeds. Horsforth School was also named one of the top schools in Yorkshire in The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide in 2022.
