We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical-minded Data Governance Analyst to join our team. The Data Governance Analyst will play a key role in establishing and maintaining Data Governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity, security, and availability of our organization's data assets. This position requires a deep understanding of Data Governance principles, regulatory requirements, and best practices, as well as excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with stakeholders across the organization.

This role is hybrid with 2 days a week in our Cambridge office.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Governance Framework: Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a comprehensive Data Governance framework (DAMA-DMBOK), including policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Data Quality Management: Collaborate with stakeholders to define data quality standards, metrics, and KPIs, and implement processes to monitor, measure, and improve data quality.
  • Data Classification and Management: Classify data based on sensitivity, criticality, and regulatory requirements, and establish appropriate access controls, retention policies, and data lifecycle management processes.
  • Data Stewardship: Serve as a liaison between business units and IT teams to facilitate data stewardship activities, including data profiling, lineage analysis, and metadata management.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001), and internal policies through regular audits, assessments, and remediation efforts.
  • Data Security: Work closely with IT security teams to identify data security risks and vulnerabilities, and implement controls and safeguards to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss.
  • Data Governance Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs and materials to raise awareness of Data Governance principles, practices, and responsibilities across the organization.
  • Data Governance Council: Support the Data Governance Steering Committee by providing subject matter expertise, preparing reports, and facilitating discussions on Data Governance issues and initiatives.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in Data Governance, and recommend enhancements to existing processes and policies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain documentation of Data Governance policies, procedures, and decisions, and prepare regular reports and dashboards to track compliance, performance, and effectiveness metrics.

Candidate requirements:

  • Proven experience in Data Governance, data management, or related roles, preferably in a high regulated industry.
  • Deep understanding of Data Governance principles, practices, and frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, DGI)
  • Familiarity with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and data security standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST Cybersecurity Framework).
  • Experience with data management tools, metadata repositories, and Data Governance platforms (e.g. Microsoft Purview, Collibra) preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to analyse complex data issues and propose practical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
