Job description

Our Database Marketing team are pivotal to the success of our member 1-2-1 communications working closely with our Planning, Creative and Performance team. We are recruiting for Database Marketing Managers to lead a small team of communication experts, making the most of our different channels; email, mail, internet bank prompts, SMS, to support the member engagement strategy and allow us to deliver against Society KPIs.

Reporting into the Senior Manager you will lead the way in the timely and accurate delivery of our 1-2-1 communications including marketing, research, pro-active service and incident communications. You will ensure we have effective and resilient capability to achieve our marketing plan, we can apply our processes to support new 1-2-1 marketing requirements and we have effective governance to ensure members are contacted in accordance with their preferences.

This is an interesting and varied role in a busy team and will enable you get involved in projects which drive value in our marketing activities and help us be more efficient in what we do

This role requires you to travel to our Swindon or London office 2 days a week

What you’ll be doing

You will own the operation of a defined set of communications via the available channels. You’ll work closely with other teams to ensure we can achieve planned activities and we have the capabilities – data, technology, skills – to improve our offering.

Ensuring our communications are compliant, and our processes are robust is critical so you will be a first point of contact for our controls governance, including as a Subject Matter Expert in resolving incidents. You will lead in regular review and testing of our processes ensuring what we do is accurate and can be evidenced.

Our marketing technology underpins what we deliver so you will facilitate improvements and troubleshoot issues to ensure minimal communications downtime. You will work closely with other Database Marketing Managers to ensure our technology and data enables us achieve our ambitions in member marketing.

We will continue to grow and evolve our marketing data so you will lead for your defined set of communications on gathering and prioritising requirements for our development teams to ensure that we work with a relevant, timely and trusted range of marketing data.

Your team consists of Analysts and Senior Analysts so you will lead and motivate the team ensuring workloads are managed effectively and the team have the skills they need.

About you

We’re looking for someone with the following skills, experience, and knowledge:

  • Breadth of experience in a Database Marketing role: outbound and inbound channels, lead nurturing and marketing automation. The ideal candidate will have exposure to marketing technology such as Unica, Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Adobe Campaign.
  • Proven experience of Database Marketing operations, from campaign briefing, execution to reporting ensuring that processes are effective, and we can evidence they are adhered to.
  • Excellent understanding of Database Marketing concepts, metrics, and benchmarks as well as an understanding of how prospects, members, segmentation, and channel tactics integrate into broader acquisition strategies.
  • Proven experience of data manipulation and transformation of large volume databases using SQL or SAS. Expert user of Excel.
  • Highly data driven and technically fluent. Experience of driving improvements to data and systems. You will have worked on complex data change or systems projects as a workstream lead and Subject Matter Expert.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Data Protection Legislation e.g., UK GDPR and PECR and how it is applied for marketing communications
  • A high level of numeracy and critical thinking: you can quickly impact assess data requirements and work with stakeholders to find effective solutions. Able to pay attention to the detail alongside the bigger picture.
  • Excellent team management skills. You can motivate a small high-performing team and work at pace to manage competing requests and priorities.
