About the Role
You will be playing a pivotal role in shaping Decarbonisation Strategy for National Grid’s businesses. The role will sit within the Group Strategy team which plays a central role in charting a path through unprecedented technological, economic and societal change as our jurisdictions strive to reach net zero emissions.
This Decarbonisation Strategy Manager role will develop impactful narratives, strategic insights and thought leadership to drive progress in the decarbonisation of key demand sectors. This will cover heat, transport and industrial decarbonisation, and bring clarity to the role hydrogen will play in a decarbonised future, helping the business understand and navigate the impact of this on National Grid’s electricity networks. You will be carrying out structured and insightful strategic analysis, and problem solving to develop key insights and recommendations for our business units. You will be adept at creating high-quality content to inform key internal Executive level stakeholders and Business Unit leads.
This role will have both internal and external stakeholders, requiring you to develop relationships and influence at every level, and to constructively challenge established thinking. You will work closely with the business and with external stakeholders, scanning the evolving market and policy landscape to develop clear positions and insights, and answer key questions on how the shift to electrification in decarbonisation impacts the electricity networks.
The role can be based in our central London office or at NG house in Warwick, travel between offices and to other main UK offices may be required.
About you
You are passionate about playing a critical role in delivering net zero, with a keen interest in the decarbonisation of demand sectors like heat, transport, industrial, and other decarbonisation key topics such as hydrogen. Ideally, you would like to build expertise in one of these topics. You are inquisitive and collaborative, able to question and constructively challenge to develop thinking. You have a proven ability to think strategically and use an analytical approach from a range of internal and external sources to create compelling narratives. You are plugged into the external environment, constantly scoping out new views and ideas to help answer challenging questions related to the energy transition and the role for electrification to enable this.

- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills to complement, to generate well-articulated strategic insights
- An ability to translate complex issues into key messages, simplifying through structured and insightful strategic analysis
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, translating research and analysis into meaningful insights and recommendations
- Proficient at using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel including adopting creative approaches to high quality content creation
- Strong stakeholder management skills, able to build and maintain relationships internally and externally at all levels
- Broad understanding of the energy sector and regulatory issues affecting the industry and long term internal/external influences
- Knowledge of National Grid and the role we play in the energy transition
- Knowledge or experience of decarbonisation hot topics and policy landscape across one, or all of the following sectors – heat, transport, industrial, hydrogen
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
Proven experience in sector specific Decarbonisation Strategy development and execution, either as a consultant or through in-house strategy teams is desirable.
