A wonderful opportunity as Deputy Director (Education), helping to grow a programme of creative music residencies in specialist settings across the UK for a Children’s music therapy charity, Jessie's Fund, in a part-time role, based in York.

Jessie’s Fund is a UK charity helping children with life-limiting illness or special educational needs and disabilities to communicate through music. As they reach their 30th Anniversary in 2025, they are seeking a Deputy Director (Education) to help grow their programme of creative music residencies in specialist settings across the UK. The role includes fundraising in direct support of the projects (grants) and deputising for the Executive Director as required.

  • To lead the overall programme strategy for the Schools Programme, including family music and other creative music projects
  • To design and implement the Schools Programme annual business plan, in collaboration with colleagues and the charity’s external advisers, reporting progress monthly against the plan to the Executive Director
  • To develop effective relationships with the network of highly qualified freelance musicians across the UK who deliver on the programme, including organising annual CPD events

The programme is established and works well, but there is exciting scope for development, reaching more musicians, building on longer-term legacy and putting more young people’s voices at the forefront of their work.  You will enjoy travelling to different schools and seeing the charity’s work in action.

Your experience:

  • Experience of arts administration/project management
  • Experience in the education sector (preferably with children with special educational needs and disabilities) and/or voluntary sectors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, in order to coordinate a freelance team located across the UK, work within our small office team and be able to communicate with the children and young people, families and staff accessing our programmes.

Salary: £46,000 pro-rata.

Location: Flexibility to work remotely but with at least two days a week in York office. Flexibility to travel, with access to a car and a UK Driver’s License.

Hours: 24 hours per week, to be worked flexibly.Permanent.
