Job description

The role will attract a salary in the range of £86,030 - £107,538 depending on the strength of job related skills and knowledge.
Your place of work will be New Scotland Yard, Newlands Park and other locations within the Met Estate. The Met offers hybrid working options, with in person attendance required for some of the working week to meet business needs.
We are seeking two exceptional Deputy Directorsfor Project Delivery, to join our Strategy and Transformation senior leadership team and to contribute to the wider leadership of the Met, working collaboratively to build diverse and inclusive teams. The Met has made progress in delivering more trust; less crime and high standards.  We know there is more to do and at the very heart of our journey of reform and transformational change, is our Strategy and Transformation Business Portfolio.

We need highly credible and dynamic individuals, who are passionate about making a difference. If this is you, please contact us for more information - it really is an exciting time to join the Met and take key role in the biggest transformation in our history.

In this role, you will:

  • Oversee delivery of a number of complex mission-critical Projects and Programmes for the Met, ensuring benefits are realised, and projects are managed effectively and according to best practice and good governance.
  • Collaborate with, advise and support Senior Responsible Officers (SRO), to deliver outcomes, helping them to build a strong case for change, navigate governance, resource programmes effectively, stay on track for scope and delivery and course correct when projects go off track.
  • Directly line manage a team of Programme and Project Managers to deliver projects which are often of considerable scale, need to deliver at pace, or are particularly complex – so, there will be an element of juggling multiple types of project and needs - to understand when to bring different methodologies and approaches to bear according to the needs of the project or programme.
  • Advise the Board on delivery confidence and suggest remedial work if there are problems.

Key skills, knowledge and experience for this role:

  • Be a change professional who understands the varying needs of different types of projects and can navigate both active and directive change.
  • Experience of successfully delivering different methodologies, would be highly useful.
  • Be adept in negotiating commercial deals and resolving commercial conflict, with the ability to conduct and manage negotiations and commission appropriate assurance.
  • Be financially acute and risk aware, supporting SROs and Project Managers to carefully manage financial and risk governance through the lifecycle of the project.
  • Ensure the latest Project Delivery theory, tools and techniques are incorporated into a highly effective delivery community, continually iterating and evolving our methods, and providing ongoing professional development.
  • Build strong relationships across enabling functions, to ensure the delivery community is engaged to achieve benefits.
