Location – Currie or Glasgow

Salary up to £85,000 per year plus strong benefits package including:
30% annual bonus, Monthly Car Allowance and Private Family Healthcare

Role
This role is an exciting opportunity to work on Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) the first east coast HVDC link, a £2.5bn construction project – encompassing the responsibility for a 200km cable project from Torness to Hawthorn Pit nr Durham, with a contract value of £750m.
As Deputy Project Director – you would lead a team managing the both offshore and onshore cable construction using state of the art cable and new installation technology
The successful candidate will report directly to the EGL1 Project Director – and would be integrated in a highly skilled team including SPEN, National Grid and external experts

What you will be doing
Through participation in the NGET/SPT Joint Venture management team:
  • Support the development and deliver the Joint Venture Business Plan entailing financial expenditure of c£2,700m.
  • Continually develop and maintain an effective and efficient working relationship within the NGET/SPT Joint Venture.
  • Support financial reporting through the provision of outturn cost analysis
  • Support the implementation of lessons learned across the Joint Venture.
  • Identify, develop and maintain a positive employee culture through effective communication processes and implementation of SPT and NGET policies that encourage and reward appropriate behaviour and performance.
  • Development and implement initiatives that will outperform the project objectives and secure shareholder outperformance against regulatory obligations.
  • Support the JV shareholders in engagement with Scottish/UK ministers, Ofgem and DESNZ.
  • Develop a relationship with local and regional external stakeholder; councilors, councils etc
  • Seek opportunities to support local communities through sustainable development and add social value.
  • Approve JV cable related milestone payments as required
  • With the Project Director evaluate and mitigate commercial and technical risk across the whole project and cable works in particular
  • Deputise for the Project Director as necessary maintaining the leadership and direction within the project team.
  • Take sole responsibility for a £750m EPC cable contract for both onshore and offshore works
For SPEN:
  • Ensure both shareholders comply with the requirements of the Joint Venture Agreement
  • Advise SPEN CEO and SPT Director with respect to Joint Venture activities and key strategic decisions
What you will bring
Chartered Engineer/similar professional with min 10yrs experience managing major projects, ideally possessing a recognised business or project management qualification (MBA, MSc) - combined with a knowledge of Cable installation works
Highly developed communication and presentational skills, with the ability to interact effectively across a broad range of critical stakeholders from senior ministers to members of the public potentially affected by the proposed developments.
Strategic thinker with a detailed knowledge of the external environment in which SPT operates – coupled with a strong commercial acumen and in depth knowledge of the regulatory framework applicable to SPT.
You will be a leader of change, capable of managing and driving people/process change within a project environment – along with a highly developed influencing and collaborating communication skills with the ability to influence the contractor and other related stakeholders.
Project / programme management experience, with a strong performance ethos and a track record of driving and delivering projects and initiatives through others
Proven experience in working in a Joint Venture environment representing the JV and shareholder with integrity.
The ability to understand complexity quickly and make decisions with confidence and clarity based on that understanding.
Sound understanding of relevant legislation and SPT Regulatory requirements – regulatory settlements, contract law, etc.
Knowledge of working in a marine environment, the commercial and safety risks and the associate legislation
Solid organisational skills with proven safety leadership skills
Proven experience of managing, motivating, coaching and developing people
Ability to manage competing priorities using sound judgement to determine options and solutions
Minimum Requirements
  • Professional qualification in Engineering/related subject
  • Professional qualification in Business and / or experience
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and customer management skills demonstrated in previous role
  • Proven experience in a comparable managerial role
  • Computer literacy
