Job role: Principal Design Engineer
Salary: GBP45,000-GBP55,000 DOE
Location: Bedford, Bedfordshire
Hours: 8:00-16:30 Monday to Friday - 38 hours per week

The Role:
Be the technical lead for projects in the mechanical design of wind tunnels in line with customer specification.
Communicate with relevant stakeholders to manage expectations across the business, whilst maintaining close working relationships with the Project Manager
Work within time constraints and budgets to carry out design activities with minimal supervision from the Design team leader.
Aid the development of the design team, contributing to training exercises and mentoring the team to improve their knowledge and capabilities.
Working from customer specification to design for manufacture, using various precision engineering machines and techniques.
Be the technical authority on stress and load calculations whilst taking responsibility for part and material spec.
Deliver written reports regarding the design team and process.
The Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years worth of experience in a similar position within the Aerospace/Aerodynamic industry (essential)
Previous experience working as a Technical Lead in a project based environment (essential)
A 2.1 or above in a relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline (essential)
Highly proficient using CAD and CATIA systems, with experience using Microsoft Office software (essential) - Isight, Matlab, Abacus would be beneficial
Experience and knowledge of DFMEA, FEA, GD&T and stress calculation (essential)
Previous project management experience, as well as client relationships (advantageous)
Knowledge of MRP systems and high speed aerodynamics testing (advantageous)
Familiar with 5S and LEAN Manufacturing principles - Six Sigma (advantageous)
