Design Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer at Walker Filtration Ltd. The main purpose of this role will be to ensure that class leading new and innovative products are developed on time and to budget in line with customer requirements and the growth expectations of the business. This is a challenging and exciting role in a dynamic and growing organisation, working as part of the Design Team and reporting to the Engineering Manager. In addition to being a ‘hands-on’ design role, the role will also involve the leadership and management of engineering deliverables within project teams. Utilising the latest 3D CAD Systems and in-house project management process ‘Concept to Production’. This position is a valued and influential member of the Engineering team and will involve extensive cross functional interaction at all stages of product development and research and pre-development through to post manufacturing support.

Direct responsibilities:

• Design and Development Project Management
• The design, development and implementation of technically innovative and commercially competitive new products.
• To ensure that all component parts and products are designed in strict compliance with mandatory national and international regulatory requirements.
• To ensure that all components and products meet agreed specifications and performance expectations.
• The production and maintenance of technical documentation, including CAD drawings, costing data, technical construction files, design calculations, bills of materials, technical specifications, marketing information, test data etc.
• The provision of technical and application support, updates and progression relating to the product development.
• To provide authoritative, factual and substantive technical writing and documentation for use by marketing and other business activities.
• Support and maintain existing product ranges incl. product enhancements and completion of Engineering changes.
• To manage and lead projects when required, providing sound project management and leadership ensuring that projects are delivered on time and to budget, from concept through to launch, some of which may be outside of the normal remit of the role.
• To provide regular status reports and presentations to key stakeholders & the senior management team regarding project progress.

Role requirements: Attributes Criteria Essential [E] or Desirable [D]

• Working in a manufacturing environment for a minimum of 3 years [E]
• Working experience of concept generation, detail design, DFMEA process, problem solving techniques and design for manufacture [E]
• Experience in a product design and development role with a demonstrable and proven track record of new product development success whilst working to stringent deadlines and budget [E]
• Pressure vessel design code and regulations, e.g. ASME BPVC, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). [D]
• Cast and moulded component design [D]
• Compressed air and compressed air filtration, drying and purification Essential Essential Essential Desirable Desirable Desirable Education & Trainin [D]

Education and Training:

• Technically strong and educated to degree level in engineering (preferably with a mechanical bias) or closely related discipline [E]
• Proficient 3D CAD user (Solidworks or Inventor) [E]
• Proficient MS Office User (particularly Word, Excel and MS Project.) [E]
