Our client is a construction company who offers a range of design and build services across the commercial, retail and hospitality projects. They are currently seeking a Design Manager with a background in architecture to join their team, and lead the design process for multiple retail projects caluing from 1.5 - 15 Million. The successful candidate could operate out of their Peterborough or Northampton branch.
Position Overview - Design Manager
- Lead the design management process for multiple projects, ensuring the successful integration of design activities within the construction process.
- Collaborate closely with clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams to develop and refine project design requirements.
- Oversee the creation and management of design briefs, design deliverables, and design programs.
- Review and assess design documents, including architectural drawings, specifications, and engineering plans, to ensure compliance with project objectives, building codes, and industry standards.
- Actively endeavour to achieve project milestones and deliver high-quality designs on time and within budget.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative design culture, encouraging creative thinking, problem-solving, and value engineering to optimize project designs.
- Conduct regular design coordination meetings to ensure effective communication and alignment between stakeholders, resolving design-related issues and conflicts as they arise.
- Monitor and manage design changes, scope variations, and associated risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, architects, and subcontractors, to ensure clear communication and understanding of design expectations.
- Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in design and construction.
Position Requirements - Design Manager
- A relevant degree in either: Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management, Design Management
- Proven experience working on high value retail refurbishment projects within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of architectural principles
- Some knowledge of design software and tools, such as BIM Platforms, Aconex and Project+
- Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to think strategically, identify design risks and opportunities, and propose innovative solutions.
